The dog pictured for the Irish setting is not an Irish setter, but looks like a long-haired dachshund. The pic of the fox terrier is simply pathetic, it's so bad! And the pic of the Norwegian Elkhound is not a Norwegian Elkhound. Looks more like a newer accepted AKC breed, but I can't remember the name of it.
Bulldogs are still immensely popular. And I don't believe at least several of those breeds in the article were ever "popular" in the first place--afghans and borzoi come to mind. Even in lure coursing back in the late 80s/early 90s, I didn't see many of them, esp. afghans.
I still see both and there is a beautiful Silken Windhound that comes to our shows.
I agree about the photo of the Irish Setter looking pathetic. We have one lady who comes to the shows from Canada and her dogs are gorgeous.
