I adopted my Doberman when he was 16weeks. I had his papers but he is 8yrs now and misplaced them. I'm just curious what you guys would consider him euro or American. image.webpimage.webpimage.webp

Forgot he is a big boy. He weighs 130# and is as tall as a Great Dane.

No way of really knowing for sure but those markings look distinctly American. If I had to take a shot in the dark id say your boy looks to be American but it's always possible he is a mix of both American and Euro lines.

I think that a true Dobe lover should love dobes no matter euro or American, both are still dobermans! Both have there differences but both awesome dogs, period!!!!!

I would have to make a distinction, as not all Dobermans are equal! Nor are they the same!! There are some Doberman's out there that I find to be absolutely atrocious in both confirmation and temperament. I have seen Dobes that look more like a hound dog, or something of the like, and act like a poorly bread Lab, or some skittish toy dog, and are a misrepresentation to the breed. I realize that this is not the dogs fault, but rather the breeders, but still I could not own a Doberman that did not fit the bill of the standard Breed Type. After generations of poor breeding the breed changes in many ways, and you can easily tell when you see one of these dogs...if you know what you are looking for. Problem is, is that the average wanna-be-a-Doberman-owner doesn't know what a Doberman is, or should be, and if it is Black and Tan then it must be a Doberman, and so they buy it, and in a year are selling "Doberman" puppies - and so the madness continues. Now, I do agree that there are awesome Dobes on all sides of the pond, it just depends on what you are looking for.

I will add that "to me" I think there is a big difference between the American Doberman Pincher and the European Dobermann. From my perspective they are very different, and in more ways than not.

As far as I know Christina Oprescu is out of Romania - the person to contact would be Julie Lopez who is out of Puerto Rico (Di Monti Carlo Dobermans) - if I'm not mistaken she acts as an agent for Game on in this part of the world. I don't do South American so I can't help you with that.

Welcome. If you're asking if Selene is American or Euro: Hard to make a judgement from that pic, and I'm certainly no expert, but she looks more American than Euro to me. At the same time, she reminds me of the female Doberman of a member here named @kashi , and she lives in South Africa.

Hard to say Euro or American really without the pedigree. Do you have access to that?

Very good example of how Euros can have many different types. Also, shhh she lives in South Africa. Close enough lol :P

Yeah, I caught that and corrected it, but not in time. South Africa, not South America. :)

Then more pictures is probably our only way to judge. Standing up in a profile. Straight forward in a sit. Even then we may only be guessing. Did you get her in Australia? Maybe she's an 'Australian'.

Yeah i bought her in Australia she was in pretty poor condition the breeder wasnt feeding them very well so me and my wife decided to take her her dad had papers but her mum didn't but we werent able to get a copy ill send you pictures when i can i don't have access to a computer right now :)

Hmm.Theres some interesting considerations.
All this talk of American vs Euro lines, and there are the South American lines that fall somewhere in the middle of the two, imo, but their colors are more "rusty" rust, almost like mahogany.
Meanwhile where do the lines in African lands fall in this?Or the breed in Australia?
Obviously they all root from Germany, but went separate ways during the wars.

Welcome! I agree that it is hard to tell from a single photo or sometimes more. We are photo addicts so if you post a few more we might be able to get a better idea. ;)

@Poppy 's dogs are SA if I remember right and they're beautiful. It could just be a balance of both.

Posted a few more 2 threads above take a look and see if you can tell would be a big help :)

I'm not an expert but she looks NA to me lol
I agree I don't see much EU in her. The rust color is more EU than NA from my experience - but I'm certainly no expert either. IMHO the rust on a EU is really a rust but in NA it is more tan than rust.
Could be Australian - I don't know what they breed. Could be SA - I don't know very much about them either.

that's cool thanks for the thoughts :)

That is the tricky thing about looking at a picture of a dog and trying to tell you one way or another. We can all make our best guesses but there are Euros that look NA and vice versa. Goes with other breeds too. Either way she's beautiful! :)

Thank you so much as i said we pretty much rescued her from that breeder she was in very bad condition and very under weight and i couldn't say no to her so hearing that gives me great joy i love her to death shes my first Dobe an she sure won't be my last :) <3
