Am I allergic to my Dobe

Hey guys,

I've noticed that while playing with my pup I've started to break out with a small red rash along my arms and face if he rubs or licks me there.

This is not my first dog but it is my first doberman. The only time I've had a similar reaction is when my American Bully who suffers from allergies and the occasional yeast infection has a reaction. We both get itchy from the bacteria/fungus on her skin.

My Am Bully's skin has been doing much better since we switched to raw meals, both she and my dobe Rajah are grooming a normal amount, and no one smells or is obviously dirty. They are together constantly and are indoor dogs. I don't want to over bathe them, so I give them a bath every other month. Rajah skin dries out if I over do it.

It just seems weird that only one dog is causing my skin to itch... is it possible to have allergic reactions to just one dog or breed? Do I need to wipe him down or bathe him more? Has any one else experienced this?

My daughters showed no reaction to our previous lab.

In comes a “short” haired Doberman- two of my daughters get a little red rash when fooling with them.

Seems as if the short hair of a Doberman is short enough to have a pointy end and pricks their skin. Whereas, the longer hair of a lab, the ends softened up and did not stick the girls.

Not a hair follicle scientist but that’s the what we think is going on.

I agree with Ddski- i get the same way with super short hair dogs, manly doberman. I always thought it was more of a "prickly hair" than allergies really because if how small and needle-like their fur is. I only say this in part because I am allergic to pit bulls- i get sneezy, stuffy, swollen eyes, the works, and my skin would also break out. With dobes, its just the skin stuff... but im not an allergist and I've never been tested to know for sure, so just my observation with myself lol

Thanks for the comments. That makes me feel a bit better. My American Bully does have a longer coat than the dobe, though it's still pretty short, so you guys theory makes sense
