Average sized ? 9 month old

Hi fellow Dobe lovers

My beloved 9 month old dobe is from Serbia.
This being my 1st dobe I wanted to ask if he is small, average or big (as I have seen posts here and Reddit, they come in a great range of sizes).

I have jotted his measurements from 4 - 5 months old.

I never really been one to worry about size aside from weight. Much more important things worry about considering there is nothing you can do about it.

Welcome to Doberman Chat. I agree with @GennyB comment, it's good to track, fun to compare, but he will be what he will be - nice looking boy! I will add that his weight IS up to you, and for health reasons always try to keep him on the slim side, especially as he's growing and filling out.

Your Dobe seems to be coming along normally. 9 months and 27.1 inches in height? That seems on track for a 28" Dobe, which is at the top of the breed standard for height. 28" is the minimum height I want in a male Dobe, although most people will go to the standard "size does not matter" response.

He is also on track for weight. Just feed him properly and don't get him overweight with fat. Im my view, they will be what they will be.

All three of my male Dobes have been 28 to 28 1/2 inches at the withers.

My first one had a bit of an unusually stocky body and topped out at 96 lbs. My second (working line) topped out at probably 85. My third one (also working line) was unusually narrow in the chest and hips, while still looking pretty good, and only topped out at about 70 lbs.!

I finally switched away from the Doberman breed because at that rate, my fourth male Dobe would probably top out at 55 - 60 lbs.! HA. I'm mostly kidding.

Yes, the "...track your weight" thread on here would be an excellent resourse for you.

Charlie (my puppy)'s father is 29.1 inches

But expected Charlie to be under given 29.1 inches is an outlier.

From the pictures, yes. I only mentioned keeping him slim since you said he was your first Doberman and I consider it an important aspect. Also he is getting close to finishing up his biggest growth period and it catches people by surprise that they need to cut back on food when the growth slows down. Unless you are very active in training and/or sports, but in any case use your eyes as he matures.

That is very true and important. When our pups hit that age I watch their body condition like a hawk just in case their weight is creeping up. In many cases the mature males only need about half as much food as they did when they were growing pups.

Charlie and I do a fair bit of exercise.
So while his appetite has reduced, still eating a good amount.
Will keep a close eye

This is a good visual too. I go more by what I see on my dog than what I see on the scale. The scale helps verify what you are seeing, but keeping a critical eye on them visually is important. Sometimes asking others opinions is good though because they may see something we do not. I will never forget going to the vet with my girlfriends' Springer Spaniel. I mentioned to her that he was a little overweight. She did not like hearing that at all! LOL but when we got into the vet's office he said the same thing to her! Only then did she really think about what we said and realize that her dog needed a few pounds off. We weren't trying to insult her. Just giving an honest opinion before things got out of hand.
