Throw Back Thursday

.here is my very first Doberman, got him out of the newspaper for $200. The people insisted on 'delivering' him to us....RED FLAG. He was gorgeous; but had many issues. Go figure. I used to have him come up to kiss me.
agreed, red flag. What was his name? is he "kissing" for a truiscut?

several of you have me wanting to learn more about horses. Since it's still Throwback day, this was May of 2016, and I met this stunning guy (stunning to me, at least) at a horse training event I went to with my work sponsored by Purina lifestyle feeds (anything but the cat or dog foods). He was up for adoption at the time and if i had a decent place for him, I might have brought him home. He was very kind to me. This is, for the adult me, as close as I had been to a horse. No idea his breed or lineage.20160514_141743.webp

Hilarious that they both seem to be grazing. Does old age make the horse tail get long?
Oh yes, hilarious! We thought the same thing about grazing! My husband swears that the dogs eat the grass because of the horses.🤦‍♀️ I'm sure many of you without horses have your dogs eat the grass. So it's not true but we always love that picture because that's what it looked like. Grazing together.

And like @JanS said Appalooses are known for their sparse mane and tail. Not sure what it is but it's just the breed I guess. I was lucky that my Appys really grew out. Cheyenne has been blessed with a beautiful, thick, long tail. I've actually had to cut it to keep it off the ground! Now her mane is something else! Totally sparse and short. There's many times when I wished I could have grabbed that mane when I was riding bareback! 😆 !

I don't know a lot about horse husbandry or even dog breeding. But I remember the guy I got my horses from said something about homozygous. And I can't remember, (but I'm sure somebody here will 😉 ) if it was breeding two homozygous or the opposite but one way you will get colors that remain for life and one that changes. He said if you breed for that you can get an Appaloosa with a beautiful blanket on just the hips with the spots and it will remain like that for the rest of their life. But he said that breeding like that will more often than not get you a solid color Appaloosa. And a lot of people want the color! So in order to get color he always did it the other way. So that almost every foal was spotted in some way. But they would change throughout their life.

Cheyenne's mom was really quite white. And I when I bought her I was really hoping she'd stay the way she was in that picture. But just like anything in your life that happens gradually, we hardly noticed the change and actually I love her color now! 🥰So go figure!🤷‍♀️

On the other hand, my boy, Stilts, has a halfway decent mane and tail for an Appaloosa. When I first bought him he was still a stallion (intact) and when the vet came to geld him he was commenting on his tiny tail. :tap: The breeder was saying, " it'll grow it'll grow! Once he's away from all the other two-year-olds because they nip on each other's tails." The vet laughed and said it'll take years! LOL it probably did. But like I say, you hardly notice things as you live life when it happens little by little. It's not as thick as Cheyenne but it's longer than when I first bought him. Maybe next Thursday I'll put up a picture of him when we first got him. He tried to put his tail up and all it did was curl up over his back like a Pomeranian cuz it was so short! 🤣

Yes, leopard Appaloosa and beautiful! I love him! I've Loved Appaloosas since I was a child. I should be part Indian. I loved watching cowboy movies and always rooted for the Indians on their pretty ponies!:yatta:

I've always felt blessed that finally I got my Appaloosa. And then I had two! 😉

Gorgeous horse! I love horses always have and say one day I’ll have one.

I think they remind me of Dobermans and vice versa lol hence my obsession with both!

My shameless, crazy training partner who has Katyushas sisters, Squid and Karen, currently has a mule that she is working on, and had a horse that she sadly lost late last year. In any case when we are training Dobermans she is constantly able to draw parallels to training equines, and its incredibly useful towards getting what we want out of our dogs. She's big into desensitization training, and she is the same person who is the receptionist at the vet clinic, who tosses noisy things near my dogs when we go there (or anywhere else when we are training). It sure does seem to work, too! Also keeps me alert to our surroundings.

So, for me too, horses and Dobermans now remind me of each other.

So many people say that! They really do seem to mimic each other. Before we got our first Doberman the guy across the street had one and would run it with his ATV. We used to love watching him cuz that beautiful Doberman just looked so gorgeous running after him. Just like a racehorse!

We even call Pepper our horsey haha.

And I had no idea her name was used for any other animal than her, but my husband found this one day…

Pepper Pamplemousse is my girls name lol
