@Ravenbird FastCat is a 100 yard timed sprint. There is an equation they use to calculate the time x distance to figure out how fast the dog did the run. When I can get to Joker's bin, I will see if the equation is written down. It is AMAZING! Joker has only done it a few times, but he absolutely loves it! Only 1 dog runs at a time.

All the info on FastCat at this link:

I did purchase these, but when they came in (before I knew it) DH surprised me by already framing them and I just haven't taken them down to scan.

Those are great pictures!

We do Lure Coursing. Princess loves it. For a while I looked at cheap home courses for purchase but never found one that was within budget and decent quality.

Thank you @Panama !!! Great to have a professional photographer at the scene. It looks like great fun!

You see your dog running in the yard and think 'wow, he's fast'..... not until you see FatCat or Lure Coursing... I think Joker pulled 8.24 seconds & 8.03 seconds.... which was over 24mph. The only problem I have is, he wants to keep going. Once the dog reaches the "catch area" at the end, the lure stops, you leash the dog and remove them from the run area. Once you are out of the catch area, they move the lure up to the start area for the next dog. Joker wants to keep chasing it. I need to make him a blindfold or something. He loves it.

Joker wants to keep chasing it
LOL. I didn't get to go watch, but my friend took her Dutchie to a Lure Coursing - has 2 of 3 legs now, and wants to do a FastCat in August. Dutchie just turned 5 and I think her fastest days are behind her, but she's still really fast. I think I'll be going the next time she gets to run. What else does Joker do? I'm still puppy-less, the wait has been prolonged due to a small litter w/no females, so I just lurk and watch what everyone else is doing.

I guess with the side barriers the photographer can't get a side shot? That would be awesome to see!
No... she actually lays on the ground, covered up, at the very end. They get good profile stride pictures of the Lure Coursing because it's done in the open (very large fenced area). It's long runs, turns, short run, turn....

Wow, great shots. I love the last one where he looks like he’s flying!

What I love about dogs doing these activities is that the expression on their face seems to change. Like they are channeling something else inside them that you don’t get to see when they are in “pet” mode. It’s not wild, because it’s so controlled, but it’s just...different! And the focus, love a focused dog!

Does Joker whine for more? I can totally see Kaiser thinking he owns the field lol.

Does Joker whine for more?

He goes nuts. He almost jerked me down last time. Once he realize "oh yeah, it's someone else's turn" he calmed down. We get anywhere near those orange barriers and he gets all ramped up.

What else does Joker do?
We haven't had much time for anything else. We do AKC & ICE (International Canine Events) Conformation. We haven't done any UKC at all. I promised my husband when we started in AKC conformation that I would only do 2 registries until Joker finished his AKC CH title. We are one big major (or a small major & 1 or 2 singles) from finishing. After that, we might work on UKC. But we love ICE shows... a lot of fun.

See? Yet another thing I haven't looked at: Int'l Canine Events. Such a great group to learn from here. Keep us posted on more FastCats!

Would love to try this with Rubie as chasing things is one of her favorite past times... I assume I can look on the AKC Site and find local events?

Ah, yes! Rockford in October... hmmmmmmmmm...

If you pre-enter it's usually only $20 but if you register at the event it's usually $30
If it's something you just want to try to see if your dog might like it, (the ones we've been to) they will do a "fun run" which is not an official run, but if they do well, you can pay the difference and have it converted to an official run.

They need 150 points for a BCat title.... points are your MPH

The equation to determine the speed of the dog is:
204.545 divided by dog's time. So, Joker's 2 runs 204.545 / 8.24= 24.81 mph & 204.545 / 8.03= 25.46 mph

I may look into that. Their premium isn't available yet but I'll print it out and mull it over when it is. Dog Dad will love adding another thing to my doggie social calendar ;)
