I'm so sorry this happened and it makes me furious to read it knowing how well you have him trained.

I would definitely follow up on this and at least get compensation for your vet bills. A facility like this should not be in business....

So sorry this has happened and I hope Rex fully regains his confidence. We try so hard to make sure we give our dogs the best of treatment, and then something like this happens! It would be wonderful if he could tell you what actually happened, but obviously something that hurt and scared him. Do hope all ends well for you all.

I’m so sorry to hear this, @Antman408 I pray that he’ll recover both physically and mentally. Does sound like he’s on the mend, poor soul.

I’m with everyone else, what a horribly wrong situation. I’ve been fortunate enough that in the past when I’ve needed them looked after they’d stay with my mom or my good friend who also has dogs that they are all friends with. I’ve always been sketched out about boarding kennels and this is why

When I was a kid my parents had our two dogs boarded and we normally thought they were good, but we came back a couple days early without saying anything and the dogs were beyond overheated without any water! Never used them again.

I'm glad I never had to board in my life! And I never will. There's too many people I know to help me out. Or I just don't go. I just don't trust people to take care of my animals.

Update: Couldn’t get ahold of the president. They had the kennel manager call me. She did not own up to any actions, simply said sorry. Deflected any blame and did not attempt to make anything right. Is “reviewing” all camera footage of his stay. However, I already know this will go nowhere and they will simply say “we saw nothing”. However, she contradicted herself.

She said “Rex had a great time, he did not give anyone issues”. However when I picked him up, the kennel tech who brought him out to me said “we had to put a prong because he kept pulling and wouldn’t stay still”.

She said she’d give me a call again Monday, depending on how that goes I will be posting my experience on social media and yelp.

So they DO have camera footage. Perfect. Check your state’s surveillance rights and get that footage before they dump it.

American law, get your lawyer involved. A subpoena is required. At minimum, you could put them out of business with this case getting negative attention. At max, a pay out that you agree to. Either way, justice for Rex.

Sometimes if you have an attorney write them a nasty letter it helps.
But I still would file complaints with the City or County.

Wow, what I wouldn't give to be able to review that footage if it was my dog! And the fear of them dumping the footage would be very real. If they see anything that looks like it's their fault, I can see them dumping that footage real quick. Or lying and saying that they don't have cameras. Or it wasn't working. What good are the cameras if you can't view them? Is it just for them to look at? To watch employees or something?

Does your local newspaper have a ‘letters to the editor section?’ If so I would write a scathing letter detailing the incompetence shown by the facility and their lack of concern over the events that led up to the situation that caused Rex’s physical and emotional decline. I would file a complaint with any reporting agency that oversees consumer concerns with this business. I would also use social media to find out if others have experienced this type of situation with their pet while boarding with that facility.
I would find a means to secure a copy of security footage during his stay. They have to have liability insurance in order to operate their business and I would find out the carrier and submit a complaint along with a letter of compensation for the medical bills incurred due to the negligence of the staff and facility itself.

With our boarding facility at the clinic we have a 3 page document that has to be filled out and signed prior to clients leaving their pet with us. It is a pretty comprehensive release form (I wrote it myself) that covers every possible situation that could occur during boarding and how the owners wish us to handle any and all situations in their absence. We go the extra mile to make sure the pet’s needs are first and foremost and their routines are met. If you as an owner have a routine at home that involves something as simple as using products on pressure points on a daily basis or brushing everyday, we make sure that routine is followed while boarding. We will never ever allow any other dogs to have physical contact with your dog. There is always one on one time spent with every animal that boards with us.
I am absolutely angered by how Rex was treated and I would find a way to have the employee (s) terminated that were involved in his maltreatment. I would be checking to make sure everyone working in the facility is certified to work in this field and find out what type training / certification they received to qualify them to work in animal care.
My blood is boiling over this, I can only imagine how you are feeling right now!

That was me. We offer a 24/7 visual for owners to download the link and then can view their pet while boarding. Owners many times can see if their dog is showing signs of stress that we, not being their owners may not pick up on immediately. The owners can then text, call or email us with their concerns. I frequently video and photograph the pet and text it as an update to the owner.

Hrm... was it me, perhaps? the boarding place we used to use had cameras in all the dog play areas and outside. I would pop it open and see Rubie standing in the middle of the room on top of the plastic play things they had; surveying her subjects.

Or me, my place has video coverage from their website. There was a sign at the facility with the company’s name on it so I called them and the minimum time they are required to keep data is 10 business days unless the business requests longer. I’d err on the side of caution and assume 7 days to be safest - in case of delays. The boarding staff mentioned the cameras on their own too because they use some of the play time footage on their fb site to promote their services.

Well, whoever it is or was, cameras in the facility that the owners have access to would certainly make one feel more comfortable.
