Rhea's Ears/Need Advice

Rhea is 10 and 1/2 weeks old. She still has some scabs, more scabs on her right ear. She was cropped 3 and 1/2 weeks or 25 days ago. Healing process has been slow due to the litter licking each other. Now we have her home hopefully her ears will heal up in no time.

The breeder said to apply neosporin but I think at this point I should keep them as dry as possible so the scabs fall off quicker . Please take a look at the pics and tell me what you think. I worry if she has been left floppy for too long? Am I ok to wait a little longer or should I post right away and try to tape around the scabs as much as possible?

Thanks in advance guys!

Oh, and is the bunching where the stitches were normal? Will that stretch out and look better as her ears are stretched up when posted?

I’ve never had to deal with scabbing (pup was already healed from crop) but from everything I’ve read on here it’s best to just leave them alone and no Neosporin. You’ll be posting soon enough. Do you have all your posting supplies?

I might be tempted to put a 4x4 pad over that and start posting.

But at the same time it will not hurt to wait, you have plenty of time.

Just let heal with no neosporin.

Thank you! My gut was telling me not to use the neosporin but wanted to get a second opinion. I am all set to post with backer rod. I've just been massaging her ears today. They look good to me except for the bunching/ribbed texture where the last of the scabs are.

Regarding the bunching.. Do you guys think that can be caused by putting neosporin on while stitches were still in? I feel like when he grows that may become less noticable but I can't see it going away since it doesnt appear to be caused by swelling or anything. Not sure, im curious also.

They're healing pretty nicely and they should be just fine when you're able to start posting when they're ready.

It could be since that isn't recommended on newly cropped ears since it can cause them to heal too fast and bunch like that.

Just leave them to air dry, don’t put anything on them. They look fine, the ears will be growling ngvand changing over the next year. Don’t sweat the little things they won’t be noticeable once your dog has grown.

I do love how her ears are cropped with the curve at the tip.

That's a good idea with a lot of things but with cropped ears you don't want them to heal too fast since it can cause puckering.
Almost healed completely. This is the last bit of scabbing on her R ear.
Looks like you're about ready to roll with posting!

Just so it makes you feel better: I got Bane when he was around 3 months old, but he was cropped at 7-8 weeks old. I started posting moment I got him at 12 weeks, and his ears are standing beautifully and strong!

Thank you! It does.

Just wanted to update. The bunching that I was concerned with earlier in this thread from the stitches is all but gone. Nice and smooth now.

Ears turned out really nice didn’t they??

Is she as calm as she presents in the pictures?

Thank you! I love her ears. Allow me to share some more pics.

She is a bit rambunctious before her morning and afternoon exercise and when she gets excited but she does have a very calm and relaxed demeanor most of the time.
