Rubie's Agility Career

I took Rubie in basement yesterday because it was an otherwise unexciting day and she did LAPS around the mat area because she was so excited. Did all her weave pole entrances flawlessly and so fast she was knocking them out of place. wtf, dingo!

I was able to move her down to 20" for the trial on the 23rd, too.

We'll jump at 20" but still be judged with time and points against the 24" dogs. We'll see...............................

Did I miss something?

You are moving her down to 20” but from what I see the jumps are not an issue?.?.?.? She clears the 24” jumps easily doesn’t she?

I gathered that she just appears disinterested in continuing the course no matter what obstacle she is facing?

I'm hoping that by moving the jumps down, she'll go faster and keep her focus. It's worth a try and we won't lose any of or current Qs or anything. Long term, it'll also be easier on her. And yes, she frequently clears the wings on the jumps hahaha.

At least we look good in pictures. Thinking about buying one but can't decide...

You know, I made this ribbon display and hung it up in the basement in the area we practice so I could be reminded of what we've been able to accomplish. It's actually missing a few ribbons because some host venues don't give you a ribbon if you don't Q and I have a couple at my desk at work but all in all, this is most of them. It's really not too shabby and I need to remember that.

I like 2,4,5. In 1 Rubie is too hidden.

These are awesome accomplishments! You’re being too hard on yourself.

If it makes you feel any better, some of us don’t even have a participation ribbon

Most of our 1st place ribbons are basically "participation" ribbons because there are very few dogs jumping 24" hahaha

Believe it or not, there may come a time the ribbons mean nothing. Drake and I have a boat load of ribbons from both conformation and obedience venues. I look back at them now and the ribbons are only a small part of what we learned together. What I remember the most are the times we struggled and what we learned to over come them. I think we both learned more from when when didn't bring home the ribbon than when we did. For me, it has become about the journey, not the prizes.
Drake is retired now and I find when I look at his trophy wall, I don't think about the days we won. I think about the times it just wasn't working and we tried different things for motivation. Food is not getting? Hm....what can we try? How about a tug for some quick play time when he gets it right? That moment when you try something new and it works is the moment you'll remember.

Great accomplishments, getting out there and having fun is the best of all rewards. Ribbons and pictures are nice but the memories you have of all the ups and down during training, and building that bond of training with your dog is the most rewarding thing to me. Keep having fun!!!

I'm traveling for work this week so we're going to miss our usual Thursday night class. Rented some ring time today since this is where our trial on Saturday will be. Rubie blew by the dog walk and A-Frame on this run but we had some nice handling moments, otherwise. The other dog there was a Corgi so in the interest of time, we just left the bars at 12" hahaha
