Ear posting tips needed

I was going to ask about your move...the unfenced yard situation with your neighbor's big dog?

:ot: I know
Thanks for asking. It’s been one challenge after another. We hate it here. And now there are 2 dogs. And the owner had the nerve to ask my husband not to walk our dogs in our neighborhood! She can’t control the dogs and has gotten dragged across the street. (They live behind us on a small private road but she crosses into our subdivision to walk her dogs). It’s gotten to the point where my husband has to carry a weapon. So yes we are hopefull that this will be a 2 yr max stay.

That is SOME outrageous nerve! Don't walk your dogs - what? Damn, I was hoping to hear a sensible solution had been found but these people sound impossible!

Seriously?!? I would be sharing some words of wisdom with them. Like get a trainer and start training the dogs, then they won’t drag your sorry a$$ into the roadway. :rp:
Some people just totally baffle me with their stupidity. I am sorry you are having to deal with this!
What kind of dogs are they?

They are Dogo Argentinos. At least that’s what they look like. We didn’t see them until 2 months after we moved in so I think they were at a Board n Train. The 2nd one appeared a few weeks ago. She uses an ecollar and a gentle harness. Sorry but when she’s getting dragged across the street by both dogs there is no way she can operate an ecollar.

Anyone that chooses that breed of dog should know how very important it is to train them or have a breed specific trainer for them. It’s a huge responsibility to keep one of these let alone two. Asking your neighbor to not walk their Dobermans in the neighborhood because you can’t control your own dogs is reflective of an inept and irresponsible dog owner.

I can’t quit thinking about this. Two years of them being in the neighborhood is going to make two years seem like a lifetime! I feel so bad for you!

Just wondering if there are other dog owners in the neighbourhood having this same problem with these people? Maybe getting a delegation together might achieve what you can't do alone. I'm talking negotiation rather than vigilante. :) I agree that it will feel like a lifetime if the situation isn't resolved. :sour:

Yes we are miserable. They play with them off leash in their front yard, running up and down their private street which boarders our back yard. My husband won’t let our kids in the back yard anymore. It totally sucks.

They are under the illusion that an ecollar will give them complete control of the dogs. I have no doubt in my mind that if those dogs go after ours or our children she will freeze and will fumble trying to use it. Especially 2! I know how difficult it can be - I have 2 with 2 transmitters and it is extremely difficult to operate when you’re under stress.

I just don’t know what to suggest. This can’t possibly be legal can it? Can a neighborhood be terrorized by loose dogs like that? Is there bylaw/animal control, or a community association that can help? If they don’t care about the dogs being at risk against each other, at least there should be some concern around kids playing.

Ok, so we passed our first 24 hour mark! They are still in the right place and looking good. Hooray!

And, she’s leaving them alone 99.9% of the time!

I’m thrilled. Thank y’all so much,

I’ve been following your thread! I’m hoping I’ve learned something! Will be getting our little girl the end of July and I’m so nervous about posting her ears. So thanks for all the questions asked and answered!

I do have a question about how you remove the posts when it’s time to redo? I’d watched many videos of posting but now that I’ve got Izzy posted and they stayed in overnight.....yay:woot:....and so far so good, just how do I go about removing them? I’ve bought surgical scissors and unisolve but where to start. Sure don’t want to cut her ear! :help:

You will not need to cut. Soak the tape with the uni-solve for a few minutes. If it's not working then put some more on. Then start at the tape end and start pulling off the tape. Make sure you soak it real good on the hair side of the ear.

This is also why most tape jobs only use tape in 3 spots. Bottom, middle and top.
We don't tape the whole ear.

Thank you! If some of that unisolve gets in her ear it won’t hurt her?

I would put UniSolve in a shot glass about a 1/3 full then put several q-tips in. Let the q-tips get saturated and then I would start applying the saturated q-tip to the tape starting from the edge and working my way through the piece of tape. Rubbing back and forth until the tape came loose. I only used the surgical scissors to cut off the pieces of tape that was unwrapped/soaked off.

Also next time you post put baby power on the fur side of the ear prior to taping to prevent the tape from sticking to the fur. To get precision with the baby powder I put the powder in an applicator bottle (like the kind for sand art or hair color) and apply to fur and rub into ear.

Thank you for the tips!! I could just see unisolve all over the place!! Oh and I did put Gold Bond Medicated powder on the fur side of her ear and some down in the ear. Thanks for that application tip! I would have never thought of that!! I had it all over my table and when she shook there was a cloud of white powder! Thanks again!! :ty:
