He’s on the skinny side and I can’t get him to gain weight. He gets 2 cups of taste of the wild with a tablespoon of dyne. Then for dinner he gets 2 cups of taste of the wild, 10 pieces of raw food and a teaspoon of dyne. He currently poops 7 times a day. Any suggestions?

I’ve also noticed his poops have been mushy lately and he’s had diarrhea bad today. He has an appointment with the vet tomorrow.

I would try another kibble if you're going to stick with it. I see TOTW makes two different puppy formulas; which one are you on? It could be the raw food, too. My last boy was totally raw fed and unless I introduced a new protein slowly, he'd have quite the mud-butt. Could be parasites, too, I guess. Any change he got into something he wasn't supposed to?

Make one change at a time so you can determine what was giving him trouble. I don't know about the Dyne, either.

Rex is a great name!

I can't really tell in those shots but he doesn't seem too skinny. You're either feeding too much or too little :woot2:

For the kibble, you might need to increase his food intake to 5 cups and break it into 3 meals. Don't follow what it says on the bag as thats just a guide.

7 poops a day? How big are they? That is a monstrous thing to deal with and even worse if it's not solid. How do your foods rate on dogfoodadvisor.com? It should rate very high, but if not, you should change it. Some foods might be too rich for some Dobes who tend to have sensitive stomachs. Don't know what Dyne is.

Ok wait. So many things going on in this diet. I thought that was freeze dried but it's actually raw frozen. I don't think you should be mixing raw and kibble as they are processed at different speeds in his body. Can you stick with just kibble for a couple days and see what happens?

Also, there is a puppy weight thread which should tell you how much dogs typically weigh at this age. At 3 months Kaiser was 30 lbs and pretty much gaining 10 lbs each month.

I wouldn’t feed raw mixed with kibble, but that is just me. I would think they metabolize raw and kibble at different rates, especially when fed together.
He should probably eat 3 times a day. Wow 7 poops a day is a bit much.
Would lead me to think he isn’t getting the benefit of the food and his body is expelling it quickly.
I would have them check for coccidia and giardia along with the routine intestinal parasites.
Don’t allow him to drink from water sources other than what you provide.
I am unfamiliar with the Dyne product.
Just a note.....Northwest Naturals Raw just had a recall for possible Listeria.

The dyne is a calorie supplement the breeder recommend I get since he believed he was under weight.

I wasn’t aware of the recall on the taste of the wild, but that’s what he’s been fed since I got him and including what the breeder was feeding him. When I got him he had solid poops. I brought him to the vet and he got dewormer, de flea and some other shots. He had mud butt for a few days then it cleared up.

I introduced the raw food into his diet a few days ago, the instructions on the bag said you could mix with kibble but I don’t believe that to be true after everyone’s Input. But he had normal poops up until last night and today. I may just feed kibble in the morning and evening and mix a small meal of the raw during lunch for him. Would that be an issue?

He actually hasn’t been outside of the condo yet, only the balcony to potty since he hasn’t finished his series of shots yet. So he only drinks the water out of his bowel.

However, oddly when my stomach started having problems his did as well.

Gosh at that age nine were eating 3 times a day and probably 6-8 cups a day depending on their growth.
I feed mine an all raw diet and Ares gets 2.5-3 pounds a day
Athena gets 2-3 pounds a day both my Dobermans are highly active and burn it up like crazy
My gsd boo get 1-1.5 pounds a day (much less active)

I would feed raw in the morning and kibble in afternoon and evening.
If you are handling the raw food and don’t wash your hands and any area the raw has touched, you are exposing yourself to possible food borne diseases.

It may be best just to feed one or the other when he is this young.

If the calorie supplement is too fatty that can cause issue too.

Your funny typo made me wonder: has he drank out of the toilet? Did you share some human food with him? Is it possible he stole some human food?

You think I should just feed him kibble for now until he gets a little older?

He hasn’t had any human food, he isn’t allowed to have table scraps or anything from our dinner. Only dog food, treats.

No toilet either, the bathroom door is kept shut 24/7 and when he isn’t in his crate either me or the gf watch him. He doesn’t like to leave our sides.

I would. His system may be experiencing difficulty with processing two different foods.
He sounds like he is a grazer of food and might do well having his food split into 4 meals.

Alright cool, I’ll take him off the raw feed for now. Just kibble and I’ll probably break it up into several feedings.

Is the pooping 6-7 times a day normal?

He goes at 5:15am, 830am, 1230pm, 5:15pm, 8pm and 930pm.
