Return of the eGGe!

Actually I think even I experience withdrawal symptoms when he doesn't have the egg :D It's so exciting it's also my favorite toy because his eyes just light up!

It's so serious that my hb and I are currently in negotiations over how and when to administer the egg. Is it going to be a high value reward? Or will it be a daily independent play session? How many sessions? What if he gets bored from over exposure and we have no egg options? What time limits should be imposed?

I don't know if this was an urban legend but there was a story about a Lab who retrieved his ball so relentlessly that he actually died from exhaustion. I was worried about that the first few times I saw him play :wideyed:

OMG, that's exactly how it is with Kali and the Chuckit ball! I have to call a timeout with her or she will retrieve all day long. When it's hot out she will stop in the shade but if I pick the ball up, she's at it again. So I do have to limit it.

We will have to limit the play time as well. Since the arrival of the egg he has been fast asleep by 7 pm. That's a whole hour earlier than we want him to be sleeping. And as long as the egg is outside he is compelled to go out there so I cannot even leave it outside.

Soooo looking to purchase one of these entertaining looking toys for the pup. Looking at Nutra9 and North Coast pets... was just curious as to peoples reviews on them, durability, shipping time, etc...

Thanks in advance

I need to get a couple for the twins. When biking, swimming and running doesn’t completely wear them out maybe this egge will be the ticket to get them to chill out. :p

I am finally wondering if I should maybe get one. If I recall, there was a sort of inferior brand of this toy that was to be avoided. So, what's the really good brand? Company name?

Have any of you found that your Dobe resorts to some digging behavior out of frustration with the Egge? Seems to me the toy's effectiveness is due to the frustration in conjunction to the fact the toy squirts away, egging them on to chase. I am not inclined to have my backyard lawn destroyed.

So there's the Jolly Egg which I have, and the eGGe. Two different brands, but both are similar. The JE is a few ounces heavier. I chose it because the eGGe seemed to be discontinued and only certain stores in the USA have it. So I opted for something I could get locally. I also think my Egg is more egg shaped versus oval.

Yes to the digging but it's a trainable moment. Tell him not to dig. See that dig spot, it's the same size today.

It will wear down your grass if they play a lot. We have used it in place of walks so... :D

I replaced my sod twice with these pups. They made it look like a race track of mud with their running. Ironically I taught Bacall to only dig on command. I take her to jobs with me and she will help me dig up plants that died from the hurricane. Believe it or not it helps me out.

So glad someone other than me revived this thread :relaxed: as I have an update.

Kaiser had figured out the longest uninterrupted line for pushing the egg was to go diagonally across the yard instead of in a square :D so I set up the city garbage bins like weave poles haha. More challenging. And here I was trying to remove all obstacles. Now I'm adding bigger ones. It also forces him to slow down a bit which I'm ok with. I have occasionally found him laying on the snow to cool down  If you play in winter, it's a good idea to pull them inside to rest for a few minutes. The ear tips are a good way to measure but they're always warm from the running. It's more his paws getting cold that worry about.

They are very durable. We abuse ours a lot and it has been used in both hot and cold weather. I even wash it in hot water without letting it get room temp from the cold.

If you don't want to touch it after it's been in the yard, use a plastic grocery bag to pick it up. It will contain the dirt, grass, ice. Very easy to scoop up that way and it allows you to keep one hand free. Before taking it, I say 'that's enough' to end the play.
