I think the rutting season is later there and many of ours are pretty tiny yet so it would make sense. We saw a doe and pretty young fawn out in a field the other day but the fawn immediately dropped in the grass to hide before I could get the camera out.

My mum was able to get a picture of this lady that she see's every morning on her way to work (PA) for quite some time:
Oh wow what unique colors. There's a name for it in deer but I can't remember what it is now.

I finally looked it up and I guess it was piebald, and you're right, it isn't unique to deer.
I saw a dog and fawn crossing the road the couple mornings ago and I sure wish they wouldn't do that with all of the traffic we get these days.

Piebald is not unique to deer, no. But that is what they are called. Albinos look different and are caused by different genes.
There are actually several different types of pigment loss/change. What's really interesting is selective breeding can "combine" them. However, doing so comes at a cost to the animals health. Even albinos are not as overall healthy as their "normal" counterparts.

I hate to see road kill. We used to never see armadillos. They have been migrating north a little farther every year. They are all over the place now. Probably the number one road kill animal we see now. So bad it made the news. I was reading they are nocturnal and when they see headlights they jump straight up in the air right into the grill of a car. Not too smart I guess.
Interesting! I wouldn't think you would have them there. I don't think KY has them. I'll have to ask my daughter but she has never mentioned it to me and I'd think she would. But who knows? lol I always think of them in TX.
They have been migrating north for a few years now. About the last 10-15 years was when we began seeing them here. This year they are everywhere. You can't drive very far without seeing several that didn't make it across the street.
I bet your daughter will be seeing them...
