It's a Dobie thing!

Nero finally was allowed to snuggle this morning because he wasnt trying to chew every available limb. I cant wait for him to always be like that!

Butt/leg nose poking and blocking in this house, too!

I've always said...If you are not a fan of being in close physical contact with your dog, do not get a Doberman! Lol they will poke and prod you with their noses, nudge you with their heads and paws, and will follow you from room to room. They will rest their heads in your lap...the list is endless :)

As for blocking, I'm so with you @Ingrid H! I'm forever telling him to 'move' or 'back up!'I swear he's made of stone ;) He blocks the passageway and looks just like a solid statue, it's unbelievable! Lol
I didn't know that was a dobie thing! :D

Hey im Karlee. New to this. I have a 4 month old Doberman puppy Grimm. Hes my best friend. Idk if it's a doberman think. Honestly i feel like its a Grimm thing. But he absolutely loves to hug. He has since i went and picked him out at 6 weeks. Whenever u pet him or get close to him he hugs back with his feet and paws like a human. Its adorable. He grunts really loud when getting hugs and im not squeezing or anything. He loves bathroom time lol. Also he snarles but its like he has an elvis smile. I had a Golden Retriever Buddy growing up and it made me so happy when Grimm smiled like he did. He loves to ve covered. Karma my APBT hates it. He also absolutely loves baths.

That is awesome @Karlee334 enjoy the loving bath time! most dobes hate water, mine is half ass backwards, she absolutely loves water, as long as it's not falling from the sky or in the bathtub. Mischa will give hugs too, but with her head, not her paws. she'll sort of hook her head over your shoulder... she always knows the right time to do it too! She also loves to be covered, but only if I'm covered with her. Unless she's snuggling with me, she will eat blankets! And she loves pillows... I think we spoiled her, she has to have a pillow under her head when she crashes out on the couch haha! And only the topic of dobe things... the infamous dobe lean... she has taken to only doing it beside you on the couch... or in the bathroom! if you don't close the door til it latches, (and I actually wonder if she's figured out how to open the door with her nose... it's a long curved handle, not a doorknob and you can pull it up or down to open, all shed have to do is bump it up with her nose and push on the door to open it) anyway, she will barge in while you're sitting there minding your business and just rush up, spin in a circle and lean on you with all her weight. don't let that catch you off guard! she damn near knocked my son over!

Hey welcome!

You know, I think Dobes come with different mixes of Dobie qualities.

Oh man, the hugging? If we let our boy do it he'd do it all the time. We outlawed putting his paws on us early on and it took, I don't know, maybe a year or more to all but eradicate it. He still can't keep from doing it some when he's excited. If I don't control him when he meets a stranger, he will have his paws on their shoulders. No grunts when he gives hugs, but I guess we've never really hugged back.

My previous boy did just a touch of what you call "snarling" but never really showed teeth. We called it "snotty face" and he got it when he was happy to see you. Mostly just wrinkles in the snout. Check out @JanS avatar pic for an example of Doberman "smiling!"

All my Dobes have detested water.

That Elvis smile is him exhibiting submission, sounds like you have one great Dobe there.

@Karlee334 Awww your dobie sounds so cool - our puppy loves to give hugs as well. She wags her tail SO fast and her whole body just wiggles .. Ernie, our older dog loves to give kisses - gets you with his big old tongue. Judy on the other hand comes up and seeks out your ear and nose and gives kisses, and if she really loves you or is excited, gives little nibbles LOL

Is it. Thats good to know. He def is a joy to have.
It sure is.
Was a great thing seeing my red girl show this for the kids on occasion.
Watch some Nat Geo or similar on wolf packs, the submissive dogs present similar to the Alpha and higher ups in the pack.
But until you do, I offer you this clip of Denver the dog. :)

OK, I'm new to adobe breed, but mine does indeed slap the floor with his paws at the down command. I think it's so cute It's like an overachiever. He does the nose Polk as I walk around, always my hand and lower leg. He also steps on my flip-flops as I walk. One thing I found interesting is when he is going to sleep he kind of wines. It's like he cries himself to sleep. He sleeps on my king-size bed with me The first night he actually whined when going to sleep, but every night thereafter, it's a whine but no noise comes out. Another weird thing he does is, in the morning I think he is totally zonked out but he suddenly jumps out of bed and runs to the cat litter box for a snack. Ewe!!

I dunno how it is that I just found this. But it reaffirms my belief that Kaizer has a predominantly dobie personality. I think he does pretty much all of these.

He can be like an unmoveable boulder when he gets a stubborn streak. Last night he was working on dinner manners (a lot of times he just gets locked in the kitchen) but last night was a weird night as we were all eating different things at different times so we could really focus on it. He was *supposed* to be laying in the living room. I come out of the kitchen and he's in the dining room, laying down, but still. Kept telling him to move. He rolled over on his back and grinned. I ended up grabbing him by the legs and dragging him the 10 feet to the living room. Lol. He just looked at me like "well, poop, that didn't quite work".

My boy is also half GSD, but I have noticed he has many consistencies with others Dobes :). I've never had either breed before, so I have no idea where he gets what he does from!

He uses his giant nose for everything, it is his opposable thumb. He learned how to open doors as soon as he grew big enough to reach them. I wake up every morning to it in my eyeball and I swear one day he's going to knock me out inadvertently. He arches his back like a cat when you scratch him, and he even perches like one on things you wouldn't think he could. He finds impossibly small chairs and curls up into them! No idea how but he does. He is incredibly vocal and whiney, he usually has something to say hehe.

I cannot go anywhere no matter how insignificant without him. He can be in a dead sleep, and if I get out of bed to go to the bathroom he's awake and right there with me. He is very thoughtful and if I take longer than usual to follow him inside, he waits and watches me until I reach him. He doesn't paw slap on a down, but when he lays down on his own accord it doesn't matter what the surface is, he grunts and just lets his entire body dead weight onto the ground. It looks like it'd hurt but it's how he always does it so I suppose can't be too bad. He does cross his paws and when he is riled... they go everywhere! He is what I call a "paws on" dog, he uses them as much as his nose. He is insanely curious and he is always in the way watching what you are doing, particularly if it's something he hasn't seen before. He does love water, but he grew up with my other dog who loves it and I exposed him to it since he was itty bitty. He is not however the strongest swimmer like many other Dobes lol I think their legs are so long it's hard for them to get a reach without them slapping up out of the water surface. He does not have adversity to rain or inclement weather, that being said even though it is not as long as a GSD by far he did inherit their double coat, the top acts like a barrier and the inside is an insulator so I think that keeps him more comfortable than a Dobe coat would. He actually dries off a lot faster than my pit who has a coat like Dobes. He is incredibly sweet and is excellent with children, they are comfortable with him even though he is far larger! He also enjoys parading about proudly with a newly acquired prized possession, it could be a bone a toy or a stick. He does not want to give it to you initially, just admire him and his object while scratching him. Eventually however he will come up to me and drop said prize in my face, I'm assuming as a kind gesture.

He is also a hugger. I attached some photos of aforementioned behaviors :D

Aw, he's precious! And yes, he's definitely got the majority of the dobie traits.
He's certainly looks like a lovable guy.

Neegan "talks", snarls, uses his feet like a boxer and to pester me, mouths/sucks his knuckles, sits like a human, stretches out like he owns the bed, then rolls on his back and gets super stubborn about moving, leans on me, especially if he's sitting on sofa with me, he sits there and leans, gooses me.

Oh he's a counter surfer and a garbage hound (never had a dog counter surf) and been a while since I've had a garbage hound. Oh AND he leaps crotch/hip high baby gates like they're nothing, and if I get it high enough he can't jump then he goes under, even if I block it with a clothes basket, broom, sweeper, etc. Oh and he loves to run in the mud!!! Oh my goodness!

Yes! He really is! He's a stinker and needs some more training but he's super sweet. He usually only jumps the baby gate when I'm leaving, he wants to go too. He sits in the front seat of my car (kids have the back seat) and has shockingly not ate the seats while I shop/go in library, etc.
