Crown Classic in Cleveland

Thanks! Just going as a spectator this time! We start handling classes in the new year and I'll be owner handling, don't expect to get far, more for fun and to get my feet wet. Once I get a chance to get on my computer, not my phone, I'll post pics. My little dude is a handsome bugger, for sure. However, I've never met an ugly dobe!

Too far for us to travel for a show atm, but have a blast.

I give you madsive kudos for the attempt at owner handling. I have two bitches currently in the ring and our breeder handles both for us. We too, are going to confo classes to learn, but not brave enough to handle in the ring yet. I wish you luck with your boy. Can't wait to see pics and gear about yoir successes

I don't intend to get far at all. But this is our first show prospect and I want to dip a toe in, ya know? If he ends up showing really well and makes it to specials rings, we would probably hire a prof handler.

I'm watching you tube vids to practice foot work, before we start classes and good Lord, I'm a mess.

Have you started your classes yet? Any pointers?

I think that's great! Like I said, massive kudos for handling. I will warn you, showing is fun and a bit addicting.

Yikes, awful typos in my last post.

It's hard to get in the swing of things when it comes to movement. Once you and your dog click and understand eachother it comes naturally after that. Pretty cool when you see it click in their heads and they start acting on instinct :)

Faith, the younger of my two confo girls is 6 mos. and we have been attending classes for the past 2 months now. My breeder comes with and she and I take turns working with her. I did not have this oppertunity with Aria, my older bitch (15 mos) as her breeder is further away. Is your breeder not close by to help out?

Advice... Work on it for a little bit every day. Video your sessions and watch them. Critique yourself. Learn from them. Watch videos from Eukanuba and Westminster and watch what the pros do. Watch how the dogs move and try to emulate them in your practice sessions. Go to the DPCA website and look up the Standard. Memorize it. Watch other dogs in the ring and compare them to the standard. Good way to learn confo. I also advise to attend dog shows, but it sounds like you are already doing that ;)

More importantly... have fun with it!!

Would love to see pics of your boy. How old is he?

My breeder has been great, she's about 45 minutes away from us, but very accommodating to questions and how to understanding pointing systems, all that.

Good suggestion to watch other handlers (than my breeder's) .

I'll get pics up soon. I'm terrible about pics. I was planning on doing it today, but procrastinated.

Who is your breeder? Understand about the procrastionation... I still have pics from DPCA Nationals in Oct I haven't DL off my camera ;)

I enjoyed listening in on this discussion. Have fun at the show! Be a sponge :D

Thanks, gonna try!!

We've been practicing stacking today...it's baaaad. Ugh.

I watched a video of Fifi being stacked and lordy, she's so smooth when she moves right info position.

Too bad I didn't have to go there for work since that's where our corporate office is and I'd come as a spectator too. Oh wait, no I don't want to go there for work at all, but take lots of pics when you go! ;)
