haha
once you make the transition... its hard to go back to chicken eggs honestly.2 weeks.Havent tried them yet... Been waiting to move, ask me in two weekshaha
But I have been visiting a farm nearby and have become friends with the lady I buy my eggs off of... im honestly considering scratching chickens, & getting ducks. I pretty much only eat duck eggs now... YUM!once you make the transition... its hard to go back to chicken eggs honestly.

This is probably a dumb question, but do the roosters taste any different?I finally had to send my rooster to the stew pot. He was plucking all the back feathers off the hens. So for their peace the Rooster is no more. The Brute.
I've never noticed a difference, aside from the roosters being bigger if they're mature. Some of the chicken we get in the deli these days is no bigger than a grouse so they must butcher them really young. This is probably a dumb question, but do the roosters taste any different?
We buy eggs from a local farmer too and sometimes they mix some duck eggs in the carton. I have no problem with them (they are good) but some people won't take them.I pretty much only eat duck eggs now... YUM!once you make the transition... its hard to go back to chicken eggs honestly.

The wife and I went by the feed store today to get dog food.
They have 3 -4 day old chicks.
I think I have her onboard with this idea.
Later tonight when we're "done" for the day I need to reread this thread from the beginning.
Looks like with an investment of 60-100 bucks for some basic supplies and a weekend of work we can become real farmers![]()

We're zoned for chickens,no roosters. However I hear one every morning so I'm thinking its heavily enforced unless someone squeals. Before you do all that.. First I'd make sure that you can even have chickens where you live (this only applies to city or suburb people). It's because of the roosters mostly because they crow. I'm moving on Monday to a new house where I have two neighbors. Were still in the country, but I still have to be considerate when it comes to noise. Also id advise looking into "friendlier" breeds of chickens. I wanted Australorps personally because most of them don't mind to be held. But most of all remember this video:

Today I let them out of the coup for the "explore, eat some grass, bugs and just run around time" A client called with a problem that took a while to solve. I went inside to get it figured out and left them out. I came back to this...
