So we were giving Hades a shower and dried him off and I noticed all these spots on his chin? There are lodes of them! I have no idea what has done it so we have tried to pop and clean them to stop them spreading but It's a bit uneasy with how many there are...

I'm not sure if this is an irritation thing or if he's been playing with things he should not be without our knowledge.

Opinions? :coldsweat:

Kobi is experiencing the same issue.

Just make sure you are washing his bowls daily. After he's eaten just clean his chin carefully.
Before he goes to bed just apply some sudocrem or E45 cream.

Yes, it's juvenile acne. Anywhere from 6-18 months in age is quite common. If you can get your hands on hibiscrub, it works wonders. Just make sure you dilute it so it is light pink in colour.

This is my first experience of acne. And yes, it's very unsightly but needs attention.

Yup, just puppy acne. I wash food bowls every feeding and toss them in the dishwasher a few times a week. Water bowl I rinse/scrub with hot water when I refill it and it also goes through the dishwasher atleast a couple times a week. Wiping his chin after meals will also help. Don't pop them though, as it's just going to make them angry (just like pooping zits on our own faces does). I've never applied cream, but mine usually don't break out that bad either.

If it starts to look worse or doesn't seem to want to clear up, then he may need an antibiotic.

Phew, was getting a tad worried, he has started to hump some things, he rarely does it mind but all them hormones want help the Acne!

Alas we shall make sure to keep on wiping it and keeping it clean along with his bowls.

Thanks guys!

Poor Kobi hope it clears up fine!

Same for Hades. Keep us updated!

Like @Regalis has already mentioned, don't pop them!! It could make matters worse, as in a spread of acne or worse an infection. Hopefully, the acne will clear up for them both but if you are not getting any results then I would suggest a vet visit, as will I.
There may be need for a prescription ointment or oral medication.

Now I feel like an awful fur mom :(i rarely ever wash bowls! Only when they start to look icky ir they had people food in them! We do use stainless, they just don't really get washed.

Nore did we as we feed Hades on walks, we put his food in a plastic lined bum bag and feed him on the go, as we are working on his attention, so he works for all his meals, he does not often eat from his bowl as there is hardly anything left after the walks, but man his water bowl gets so gross as he likes to spill it out the sides of his mouth and it gets really slobbery :tearsofjoy:

I guess it's one of those things that skip your radar when washing up.

Both food and water bowls can harbor a variety of germs and bacteria. I clean both daily with hot soapy water and then once a week I disinfectant both bowls. Plastic bowls tend to develop microscopic scratches which can harbor bacteria and are harder to disinfect, so I avoid these.
I don't eat off dirty plates, day in and day out!! So the same rule applies to my dobe.
If you can get into the habit of picking up the bowl after each meal it will become routine, eventually :)

IMG_6036.webp I pull all food and water bowls from bird cages, cats and dogs when they are settled each night and they go into the dishwasher on a sanitize cycle and the next morning voila all clean and ready for that day. It has become so routine that I don't even think about it. I do hand wash the dogs bowls after the morning meal but only run through dishwasher at night.
I have 3 outdoor SS bowls for water and they also get cleaned daily.
I use Hibiclens on their chins daily as well because Bogie tends to get the acne but Bacall doesn't.

Juneau used to get smaller ones on his chin and we always feed from stainless steel. Diluting tea tree oil with warm water and wiping in the evening cleared it up for us. DON'T directly apply undiluted tea tree oil though, since it can be a skin irritant. I did 5 drops to about 1/2C water.

Update

Hades Acne is clearing up! Looks slot better than it did! Keeping It clean an applying some E45 he hates it to begin with but now he keeps trying to eat the stuff, deary me..

E45 works wonders. So good to hear it's starting to heal up.

You'll be pleased to know that I've had great success with a daily appliance of hibiscrub. Then nightly I've applied sudocrem.

It's far less 'angry' looking. A little way to go yet but healing well.

Ok, what in the world is E45 cream?! It's gotta be a British thing lol

Lol E45 = Magic cream!! It helps to improve skin health by treating and soothing rough, itchy, chapped and dry skin. It's perfectly safe for treating the whole family.

We love E45 my partner occasionally gets nasty exma around his armpits so he has alot of it stashed all over the place..

I'm glad Kobi is getting better!
