What is my Doberman puppy mixed with or is he full?

I just got a puppy. He was listed as a Doberman puppy on Craigslist. Of course I wasn’t sure if he was mixed because it was from a backyard breeder. I love him no matter what. The breeder said his dad was an AKC registered Doberman. His mother on the other hand, was never mentioned. Sometimes people think he’s a lab. But the size of his paws makes me think otherwise! I feel like he cannot be a Doberman because his fur color is not like a regular red Doberman. He doesn’t have light spots on his chest and feet. Please let me know your opinion!!

Cute puppy! Strange that the breeder said his sire was AKC Dobe, but "didn't mention" the mother. Does that mean she looked like a Dobe, but not AKC registered? Your puppy does look very Doberman-like, just lacking the markings. Photos of him standing up would help define what other breed is in the mix. Some fawn or blue dobermans don't have sharp markings and would make his red coat "different". Enjoy your new pup, tell us his name and keep posting photos. Thanks for joining the forum!

A standing pic would help. He does look very much like a Doberman in his face - super cute! When he’s laying down, his front legs look like there are tan markings. How old is he?

This is him standing up! He is 8 weeks by the way and he is 18.5 pounds. My vet said her Saint Bernard was the same weight at the same age and is now 95 pounds !!! And his name is Kobe!

For the most part, yes, he looks like a Doberman. Those ears are definitely Dobe & not Lab.... Unfortunately being bought off Craig's List, there's no telling what (or if) he's mixed with.

Kobe, that works well with your name, assuming that's your name on the bone tag If you still have the breeders contact info, just ask for a pic of the mom. Even a BYB should be able to provide that. I see very faint markings above his eyes. Maybe they will be more obvious in the sunlight. Do I see his back toe has a white mark? I've always found that white marks indicate non purebred. Usually you see them on the chest.

Welcome! Years ago my friend had a Malamute named Kobe. Friend was a Lakers fan.

Your pup looks close to a Doberman. I could see something else being mixed in there too though.

I think he looks very Dobe, but you might find it is easier to tell when he reaches his maturity. My mix girl looked a lot more Dobe like as a pup but the body shape, size and head shape did change a lot as she grew. Either way, a beautiful pup and he will most likely have all those Dobie traits, both good and devilish, and will keep you on your toes.

Yes, I would say there is Dobie in him, he is a handsome boy. His markings are very faint, if any. It doesn't matter if he is mixed, your going to have to stay two steps ahead of him with his intelligence and energy level. Teach him with consistency , positive reinforcement and love he will be the best dog you'll ever have.

Welcome from Minnesota! I see a lot of Doberman there but perhaps the mom had a bit of some other breed.
