What do you do to groom your Dobie??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How often do you bath? Depends on how dirty he gets, usually one or twice a month, but his feet and legs more often...his aim is poor LOL
Brush? Lot's he loves it
Do you clip whiskers and ears?? NO
What shampoo do you use?? Fresh & Clean, the spray is great too

I use Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner
I use a conditioner spray
Glove mit groomer
I do trim wiskers, ears and cowlicks
I trim nails with a regular trimmer than dremel them down..

I mainly do it for a show dog reason. Daemon hasn't shown yet, but I want to make him aware of these things. Most people who show do trim off whiskers, it just gives the face a sleeker look I suppose

How often do you bath? Very seldom, unless he's really dirty. We do use some of the puppy wipes and give him a little clean up once a week or so.

Brush? Not often, but if we do it's one of the rubber finishing brushes for horses.

Do you clip whiskers and ears?? No

What shampoo do you use?? A mild puppy shampoo. For a waterless bath we use the Miracle Coat. The puppy wipes are Perfect Coat puppy wipes in the baby powder scent. He smells so good (and dare I say innocent? ;) ) after we use them.

Well - I use any good dog shampoo - don't use cream rinse. I bathe him when he needs it.
I trim his ears - but don't do wiskers...
I use one of the rubber horse brushes! LOL and I have a soft brush I use to finish him with.

I use main and tail also... And it is really on a case by case basis... there inside most the time so they dont get to horribly dirty..

Jess uses a soft bristle flat brush with them (whenever he thinks about it)

Dont cut the whiskers... I sometime trim up areas if they look out of place

JanS I use a waterless too - Pro-line Self Rinse Plus.... this is for the "in between" times.

Do any of you have dogs that roll in "dead" stuff in the spring? summer? Fall? Anytime they find it? LOL

I clip their nails once a week.
I brush them once a week.
I clean their ears once a week.
Sundays seems to be cleaning days at our house.
I give them a bath once every three months or so, or when one of them rolls in something bad. I use Pert Plus shampoo all in one.

Have you guys ever used this recipe?

spray bottle of a little less than 1/2 listerine mouth wash, 1/2 water, and 1 cap of alpha kerra bath oil......

You spay it on and then wipe it off. It's an old time recipe that I have used in between baths or after being outside.

It's kinna nice.

Becky

I use detergent free shampoo I buy at the vets about every three months in the winter and once a month in the summer.

Hercules takes care of his own nails and I clip Chloes about once every 6 weeks; she had a real bad experience with a vet tech who clipped them too close when she was a puppy so she really gets frightened when I have to do this now.

I brush more in the summer when I can do it outside. I use a 'rake' for this.

I do the ears as needed and a general wipe when they need it in between times with a mixture of 1/3 Lavendar body splash, 1/3 Lavander baby oil and 1/3 water in a pint size spray bottle. The Lavander is supposed to be anitseptic. Guess it works. They smell good anyway.

I wash their faces and clean their eyes out every morning. Hercules gets really big eye gobbies.

I don't bathe dogs very often unless they are actively showing - even then I don't overdo it. In the winter, maybe once unless they are showing.

I have a dog bath in my basement - I really need to take a picture of my grooming set up one of these days. We finished our walk out basement this past summer and I have a dog area (shared with the guinea pigs), and a full bath with a curtained off area for my dog bath. I waited a lot of years to have just what I wanted :)

I use different shampoos - one is a horse shampoo and one is a good dog shampoo....Nova pearls. I only use a small amount and use one of those nylon scrubbing bath thingies to apply it with - lukewarm water (almost cool) and never scrub against the direction of the fur. In fact, I really don't scrub at all.

I normally dremel nails every week, and trim anything that sticks out - whiskers, ears, under the tail along the flanks.... and just random sticky outie hairs :D I use an electric rechargable clipper for that.

One of my grooming goals this year is to learn how to really shave down the neck for shows - I don't have the correct clippers yet for it, and I need for someone to show me how to do it.

I trim all of my dogs - and have been known to trim rescue dogs that have stayed here ...... for the most part my guys all wait in line for their turn except for Velma - she always hates getting her nails done but likes getting trimmed. I think it makes her feel special :)

I hear you Velmadobe on the nail clipping aversion. Chloe just freeks out. I have to tranq her, leash her to the kitchen stool and muzzle her to get this done (she's getting better about not needing the tranq). What she really likes is when I get all done and I polish her nails. I do this first of all to seal them up in case I botch something and second of all because it also looks pretty. My grandkids helped me find the color I use at a Goth shop out at the mall. It's black nail polish with just a hint of dark pearlesant blue in it. It's not real obvious and I'm the only one who knows she's wearing it. Afterwards she struts around for days holding out her paws to anyone who will look at her nails to show them how pretty they look. It's too funny.

Mary Lou that is just so funny! I never thought about the black goth nail polish! That is such a great idea! I use to polish the horses hooves... I don't know why it didn't dawn on me... lol

:tiptoe: I can just picture that.....

This maybe kinda off the subject but it sorta has to do with grooming I guess, I know when I took my poodle to be groomed she did the gland.
Logan's butt gland is nasty  We take him seems like every other month to get it popped. Do any of you guys have this problem?

How often do you bath?

RARELY, only if she gets dusty, lol... after dog park mainly, or if she gets crazy and jumps into the lake... eww stagnant water...
Brush? She hates it!!
not even the rubber glove... so I dont bother... doesnt seemto make a diff with her anyways :D
Do you clip whiskers and ears??
no ways! she has the cutest lil curly whiskers, when you can even see em!
What shampoo do you use??
Anything moisturizing... then whatever conditioner i have... and in most cases i will even rub a high dollar lotion into the top of her... its super dry here in the winter...

The italians... I just use a wipey... LOL
