WAC is in the books!

are they allowed to pee during the test?
I don't know for sure, but I'd think not. That would be interesting to look into. Since it's not obedience or a formal heel, I wonder. In a UDC trial, they could have their own age-related temperament tests which would have their own rules, plus the WAC which is DPCA rules. When I get a chance I'll try to find out.

Not all Dobermans are going to be as 'accepting' to that particular surface.

They are still Dobermans 'genetically' but...

Does not work that way every single time regardless of the parents or the breeding. Their is NO 'guarantee' that any pups will have this or that characteristic just because the parents had it...
You are correct on all counts. But I will argue that temperament is highly genetic and you will never ever find a Doberman as good at herding sheep as a Border Collie, nor will you find a Basset Hound that points at birds. There is no guarantee that all pups in a litter will have the characteristics of their parents, but their odds are much higher if you are purposefully breeding dogs for a certain temperament.

Again, this is not a test to say I have a better Doberman than you have, it's a test to say if your Doberman has a better natural temperament to do working sports. I'm obviously very proud of my dogs inborn personality, but I am not by any means say you have a lesser dog.

@Ravenbird are they allowed to pee during the test? I know I saw one dog lift his leg during the test at the UDC nationals and I think he qualified. In the FDC, if they pee, they're out.

This new girl I have has no idea how a potty break is supposed to work or what any of the words mean. Her previous potty 'training' only goes as far as 'try not to go in the house' and that is all.

It sucks for me that I got to teach her this stuff in the warm months. Potty training a Doberman is a thousand times faster in the cold...

:)

Your dog was tested after it was properly raised / cared for, trained, socialized, trained some more in other areas, etc. by someone who...

:)

If you ask an honest breeder about temperament on 12 week old puppies he will tell you that 'they all act like puppies'.

That work you put in helping your dog get to where he got in that test should not be discounted. You worked for that and helped him earn that!

The same exact dog if owned by an owner that was 'less enthusiastic' likely would not have been able to do that so easily.

I got nothing but admiration for the work you put into your training and the results you get in the end. Proof is in the pudding! :)
