I've heard that many ethical breeders disregard any IABCA titles because almost anyone can get their title in a weekend. I don't know for a fact, one of those "I heard" things.

But for owners wanting to have fun and get experience and some education at the same time, I love the idea that UKC and IABCA judges help educate with critiques.

That is what caught my eye too, on how at IABCA the dogs dont compete against one another but against the standard, and owners get a written critique from the judge.

I also like the Breed Standard event described in a recent post about UDC Regional- where owners get judges verbal explanations and coaching as handlers, on how to do that event?

Note the "Providence" Breeder link did not discuss the Continental Kennel Club (not to be confused with Canadian Kennel Club) and my impression on reading elsewhere is that CKC is less well regarded.

I have heard the same thing for UKC and that those titles don't mean anything, but that's simply not true with all of the competition. I have never been to an IABCA show so I can't comment on that.

BTW you can get a written judges crtique in DPCA Top 20, I read...its confidential, not shared with public tho...

I don't understand the problem with that. Why does it matter? To me it's silly to think that you have have to endure you what do you do to prove your dog in AKC. It's the same judges in ALL the venues.
Back maybe 15 years or so ago I spoke with a "professional" handler and she told me to be prepared to spend a minimum of 10 grand to finish a dog in AKC. That's ridiculous in my book.

The IABCA judges on FCI standard, the country of origin standard. I imagine these (mythical) 'ethical' breeders are not that fond of the German standard. A G(good) or SG(very good) rated dog is not going to walk away with a title in a weekend. It's all about the dog vs standard. So the critical practical difference is that only Excellent-rated dogs can be awarded the championship titles.

In an AKC show you can have an entire ring filled with subpar dogs, but someone has to 'win' and get awarded points towards their title. This is one of the ways standards get rewritten because over time the dogs stop resembling the written standards so the standards are rewritten to accommodate the dogs being shown.

I prefer to show in IABCA vs AKC, these are the two I've personally done.

My most memorable win in AKC was 50 years ago, on a Saturday the judge didn't even place my bitch in open class...on Sunday, that bitch won Best of Breed over Saturday's judge's dog. I will never forget that triumph!!
