Do you have a passport? If I remember right Lisa either needed hers or 2 other forms of ID so you might want to look into that before you go.

It looks like we will be driving to Chicago to pick Rumor up. For some stupid reason she would have a 4-6 hour layover there if we didn't. I can't see leaving her there for that long so off to Chicago we go!

Yes that's a good call! We picked up Zara at JFK. We figured she flew 8 hours from Amsterdam and to catch another flight to Detroit would be too much. Take some cleaning supplies to clean the crate out. Ha Ha cleaned the crate out and she spent the 8hr whole ride home on our laps!!!!!!!!! Since out girl flew so far we also took some Plain unflavored Pedialyte. It will help replace electrolytes they may have lost from not drinking water or vomiting.

If you are importing make sure you have a Federal Issued ID like a Passport. In Customs they asked for ID I gave the customs agent my Drivers Lic. The Customs Agent said they don't accept them any more! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! You might want to call Customs in Chicago and ask what forms of ID you need.

Yes on the pedialyte just make sure it is the plain and the others have sugar free CRAP in them

Yes it was stressful for us. And driving though NY City! Ha ha! Thank god for the we left the night before and met Sahara and John in PA! Then we drove closer like a 2hrs from JFK and got a hotel room. Couldn't do it in one day since its a 8-9hr drive back to Ohio each way. We got to the airport found the cargo company then we found where the Customs building was. Then we still had a couple of hours to wait. So we went for lunch. We had a very good friend texting us where the plane was exactly and if the cargo was on the plane. She kept texting us with Flight Tracking info. Oh Zara's at 35,000 ft over Greenland!!!!!!!!!!! Flight time left! She was a great help!!!!!!!

Only other things are making sure
what cargo company is shipping, then you can check online to see if she is on the plane
what building the cargo company is located, getting there early
there might be another shipping charge at the cargo company like $75 There was one in JFK

Is all the shipping info and papers in your name or both of you? If both I would take his passport also. Or other acceptable ID's

Sometimes Customs will make you get a Broker. Some others can chime in about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I may have met someone else in US who is getting a pup from this same litter. Vera told some guy on FB that I have one of her dogs and he contacted me. He had questions about picking the pup up from the airport. Seemed like he was picking up his pup soon - so I kind of guessed it is the same litter. I told him about DCF, we'll see if he joins.

Yes Lisa got one so we were able to track her progress all the way on our trip to Minneapolis. A really nasty storm hit just as we were getting into the city (couldn't see the freeway with the wipers wide open) so the plane had to circle for a half hour or so before it could land. That said, the customs office and the cargo area were a few miles apart so we had to get back out on the freeway a few times to go from one to the other to get all of the papers in place. You have to wait for them to be able to get the passport and papers off the crate so you can bring them to customs but we went to find exactly where the customs office was before the plane landed.
Gotta love a puppy passport.


All in all it went well and the pup (Demelza) was unscathed and calm as could be when she was brought out to be picked up, even though we looked like drowned rats with all the rain. LOL

I told him about DCF, we'll see if he joins.

That would be great to have another pup owner from there as a member here! I hope they join!

I saw that too. I have been watching the forecast. Chicago has a bit of snow for friday (no biggie) but we have ice. Now that might be a problem. Hopefully we get out of here early enough to miss it and it will be all cleaned up by the time we get back.

Like they said on TWC yesterday "it's all relative" when they said it was bitter cold in the south but thought it would be beach weather for people in the north. We don't get the nasty hurricanes so the alternatives up here are snow, ice, bitter cold and tornadoes in the summer.
