Last night was the last time we saw her out doing what she loves - running full bore. A darn fox walked into the yard when we had them out and she can't resist them so she took off after it and gave it a run for it's life. We know her heart couldn't take that anymore and she had been doing great as long as we keep her quiet and we both knew this was going to be too much for her but she goes deaf when it comes to fox. After running around like a maniac after it she must have gone down and that was it.
The really devastating thing is that we combed the woods for hours and still haven't found her so we can't get closure. I'm positive she could not survive the heat and bugs for this long with her condition, even though we're not going to give up looking.
I kept going out through the night to see if maybe she had just collapsed and came back later but that didn't happen.
We both knew she was gone last night but we couldn't give up that glimmer of hope.

This is the last photo I took of her...
