Last night was the last time we saw her out doing what she loves - running full bore. A darn fox walked into the yard when we had them out and she can't resist them so she took off after it and gave it a run for it's life. We know her heart couldn't take that anymore and she had been doing great as long as we keep her quiet and we both knew this was going to be too much for her but she goes deaf when it comes to fox. After running around like a maniac after it she must have gone down and that was it.
The really devastating thing is that we combed the woods for hours and still haven't found her so we can't get closure. I'm positive she could not survive the heat and bugs for this long with her condition, even though we're not going to give up looking.

I kept going out through the night to see if maybe she had just collapsed and came back later but that didn't happen. :( We both knew she was gone last night but we couldn't give up that glimmer of hope.

This is the last photo I took of her...

Run free and high sweet, loyal, smiling, beautiful girl.
You carry all our hearts with you.
Sweet girl you have many of our babies to greet you.
Chase the fox, the deer, play and live free!
We love you Della.

So devastated with you Jan... I couldn't believe it was her time. She will have many great dogs waiting for her and she's reunited with Boris again. I will be thinking of you guys this weekend. If you need anything please let me know.

We are all hurting with you and your husband. Its heartbreaking and frustrating that you can't find her. I wish I lived closer! I'd gladly help in your search.

RIP Della. :sorrow: You will be missed.:(

I'm crying with you. And not being able to find her must have been so heart breaking, not to mention stressful. Did you take Albert out with you searching? He might be able to help find her. She was a goer right to the end, and will be so missed by all!

^ I was wondering the same. I have no clue how big these woods are, but curious if Albert would naturally follow her scent.

Thank you everyone.
Did you take Albert out with you searching?
Yes and he couldn't come up with anything either. Poor baby is so sad today since he looked to her for everything. :(
I have no clue how big these woods are
They're huge and she covered a lot of ground while we could still see/hear her.

Oh Jan, I’m so very sorry. I feel sad for Albert since he followed her every move. I’m hoping you and your hb will be able to find peace in all this. RIP sweet Della.

I was crying when I saw the subject title. My heart breaks for you. Prayers for closure. Big tight hugs to you.
