Rubie's Agility Career

Unfortunately we did have to scratch our second run on Saturday to leave in time for the shower (for which we arrived exactly on-time. the guests of honor didn't get there until an hour later...).
So predictable and so annoying!

So the weekend was a mixed bag. Maybe you should give Rubie a break and work Moo? Rubie stays home and snuggles with your hb, you and Moo rock it out at the course. I get the feeling a Doberman questions why we want them to do something. Other dogs just seem more like willing soldiers

Haha I had the exact same thoughts about all of the above!

Once Moo has 6 weaves and contacts down, I do think I'll trial with just him a few times. It took Rubie about a year to get to that point but I think Moo will be much faster. It would be REALLY fun for me to take TWO dogs to each trial but currently, Moo protests pretty loudly when I take Rubie out and leave him behind when he's come to ring rentals and stuff. He would need to learn to get past that hahaha! Rubie also has a nice little fan following in the CPE circuit so I wouldn't want to offend them by showing up with another dog

It's tough because with her weave pole stress issues in Trials, it really just seems like trialing is the best method to work through it

Here's our Jackpot video that I actually find quite funny! The taped area at the end is the distance challenge so I cannot step into it. She was SO CLOSE! Originally I had planned on having a little more momentum going into it but I totally lost her after she decided to hang out with the judge. One of our worst runs in a long time :D

well I was going to get a little upset about it because they said it didn't but the rules say you need to stop the clock before the buzzer so... Darn! To me, she was committed to and taking the jump so should've counted :woot2: I think even if we'd completed it in time, we'd have received 35 pts of 36 so no good anyway  hahahaha

In reference to your rant:

Prob the reason why I don’t have a lot of friends. My family have always come first and since Ragnar entered, I leave events early because my WIFE cannot stand for Ragnar to be in the crate for longer than 3hrs. Really gives me a reason to leave early anyway and the wife knows it.... Always get snide remarks from folks and extended family about him just being a dog and they get the quick Fu$? Off remark from me. My wife tells me I should handle that situation better but the older I get the more short and direct I am.

Kinda sounds like Dog dad understands that training Moo creates a stronger bond than sitting around or a casual walk. Not having control over a very important circumstance like employment and then not having the feeling of control over your kingdom is very unnerving for a man. Didn’t y’all just get married too?? He should become involved in Agility training and start taking part IMHO....

Not to pry- just some thoughts.

“Turn your back to me and I’ll sniff your ass!”
She didn’t do the dobie poke on the judge, did she? Lol

I don't think she got 'all up in there' but she was very close  luckily I don't think that's an auto NQ hahaha!

We did just get married! And bought the house! And he finally bought a new car after having the last one for 13 years! So the employment stuff is just icing on the cake.

There was a chain of events that lead to the outburst of Rubie is terrible and Agility takes up too much time so I think it's blown over, now. It started with Rubie barking at someone while we were out front and the dogs were on their long leads. When Rubie barked, Moo ran and drug the nylon lead through HBs hand which of courses causes cuts and bleeding. I didn't react with enough concern about the injury. So that's what lead to the Rubie is out of control because I spend too much time focusing on other things with her declaration. On top of me making asking if we could be a little late to the baby shower because of the trial I'd signed up for. On top of the outstanding claim with our insurance company from an incident with her LAST April. Etc., etc..

He just wants a pet dog. He did most of Rubies CGC training because I was traveling and went through all of Moo's obedience classes but doesn't see the point of doing anything beyond that which is fine by me but I want to do more beyond that and we have the time and resources so don't get all HUMBUG on me!

Ouch, nylons cuts are just the worst. I haven’t had one, but just hearing about them makes me cringe. I read a lot about Flexi injuries and that alone is enough to make me pay solid attention when it’s being used. Tell him it was handler error, not the dog’s fault :wacky: I totally get where your hb is coming from though, it’s not a normal dog. But men really can’t handle not being center of attention, I’ve had to deal with that too. “What about me?” Um, ya, what about you? :spit:

I’ve taken the path of least resistance and pretty much succumbed to the Doberman lifestyle - like Stockholm Syndrome - eventually you begin to identify with your captors  I’m not sure you should tell him that though ;)

Anytime we get out there is a fun time, even if things don't go our way

I really like this....

I mean, @jazzies mum has a good point there. If this is not taken “competition serious”, there are so many other things that you and Ruby get out of it. Just kinda depends on how one looks at it. Ribbons and trophies are cherries on top the other sweetness.

It's a mindset I had to try really hard to adopt once we started trialing. Rubie is AWESOME in class and when we practice in the backyard but it doesn't translate to trials which was really frustrating, to say the least. Now we just go out there and goof around and don't take it too seriously :D it will come eventually as we do more trials!

That's exactly the way I take dog shows with Della. We have a great time out there and if she wins some of them, that's a bonus.

Rubie is looking great and I love those last photos you posted!

Today was a doozy!! I signed us up for two UKI speedstakes runs last minute earlier this week. I knew it would be a small trial but I underestimated exactly how small. We got there with 5 dogs running before Rubie!

I was able to watch a couple runs to get and idea of the course and then had to run out to the car, grab Rubie, throw off my flip flops and rush to the start line!

She was brilliant but because I didn't walk the course, I mishandled and she blew by a jump. That's a "refusal" in UKI and you can't have any faults to Q. Our second run was about 10 minutes later! I had Rubie outside to potty so I almost missed the walk through for that one, too, but got a few minutes out there! She ran fast and flawless and I didn't screw it up for her ;)

6 points toward our novice title for which we need 20!!
