Ripley

Her mind seems to be maturing too and coming back around in our training. Let's hope that continues :fingersx: So don't be surprised when they do great then go stupid again and you have to back up and restart a few steps.
HAHAHA! I thought Asha was finally "getting it" toward the end of 7 months. On her 8 month birthday she came into heat. Her obedience & calmness & maturity just blossomed. Then by her 11 month birthday her old (young) self crept back in. The monster came back.:rofl::rofl: The second heat has come and gone with a month of being quieter, but the returning monster is not as big or bad as she was before. Dare I dream of maturity before the age of 2???

@Ravenbird Thank you so much for all the details! It really helps! I was thinking slip chain too because that's basically what she uses for show and the clinks of the chain would be a little audio cue to shape up.

For the push heeling look into Janice Gunn. I'm thinking about buying her digital videos but she has a lot of free videos on her you tube channel that you can get the gist of it. It's pretty much what they use in IPO. Power steering with the hand then the hand fades.

"Learn heeling from top obedience competitor, Janice Gunn. Her ring-proven methods have seen Janice achieve perfect scores with 8 different dogs (Novice to Utility), winning more high in trials than she can keep track of and taking 8 different dogs to the pinnacle of the American OTCH title, and 11 dogs to CKC OTCH."

I've been working on these steps too to set up good foundation for heeling.

And of course playing games to make heeling fun and not a chore.

It's good to know all of this is a normal struggle with these guys LOL.

Sooooo Ripley is bonkers for Agility! I knew she would be. We got to play on agility equipment for obedience class today. It was interesting and cool at the same time to see her for the first time be unsure of something and watch her overcome it immediately. She was very unsure of the catwalk then second time acted like she didn't even know that girl from the first time. Then she was getting OVER confident. To recovering and conquering it again. I was impressed and proud of her overcoming something she was unsure of so quickly.

She loved the tunnels and rocketed through them. She loved the A frame. She raced me to the table every time so I guess she loved that too. She did a sit stay off leash before a puppy appropriate low jump, then jumped over it and ran to me. She even caught on to the weave poles with my hand as a lure.

Never seen her pant as much as she did today. Her face was lit up the entire time like she was thinking "I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MY WHOOOLE LIFE" We all couldn't get over how excited she was for it all. We joked that now we just have to do agility before every class to get Ripley tired enough to thinking mode.

After an hour of all of that fun we then went to Stock and Field to do some environmental obedience training in the store. We are both pooped out now.

Congrats to that! Nothing tops the feeling from the steps of overcoming and success and a happy pup! And happy because of accomplishment as opposed to mischief lol. But I am tempted to say Ripley has it easier than some, having this mom and dad;).

Cute how the color of her rust markings is enhanced by the color of the toy.

Their enthusiasm is so rewarding. When she learns that you guys are going to class, all the excitement whining will be worth listening to :D but pack the ear plugs

I like the different coloured posts. Makes for such a cute look.

Oh @Ddski5 (sing-song voice) I'm missing some updates on your two lately!

@Rits isn't it amazing how much these puppies will drag you from thing to thing? I think I posted when Asha was in Star Puppy the teacher brought in a tunnel to coax the puppies through while it was tied up like a fat hoop and slowly made it longer. Asha went through it like a demon on steroids. When it was fully open she'd fly through it and before I could grab her at the other end she flipped around and went back through it the other way. I was laughing so hard the tears were streaming down. So was everyone else in the class.

Oh how fun!!!

If it is something you'd like to try (so we can live vicariously through you!) I would start with "bottom" training at home. Those contacts can be tricky. I started with Moo very young because I'd been through it with Rubie and she never quite got the hang of stopping at the bottom  Can very easily be done on any set of stairs, off a porch step, etc., and of course is a good mental game

Ripley bowled me over the first time she came flying through the tunnel so hard and fast. Everytime after that I had to brace myself and get my back leg set in the ground so she wouldn't knock me over again. The one tunnel was max length and I couldn't even see her with it being dark and she was coming out of it so fast. It makes me happy to see her having so much fun though! She's always been one to climb on or attack anything and everything... she thinks the world is her play toy.

Oh yeah! I already have her cued to "wait" going downstairs where she must wait at the last step before release because if she had a choice she would gladly jump off the last six steps . I used wait a lot and "easy" to slow her down for the equipment. My instructor had us use her tug at the bottom to keep her from looking back when going over the A Frame and she told us if we wanted to get into it we could do targets at the bottom. I will have to look up bottom training. I do want to get her obedience under control before we go into any performance sports because I already knoooow she would shine in those but I want her to be more in tune and under control before she's allowed to go buck wild. I also feel like I'd get a little lax and lazy once we dive into them. She's getting there and hopefully by the time she is over a year old we can begin to look into it more! I definitely welcome any beginner tips and videos you may have found useful for you and Moo!

sounds like you've already got a head start!

I feel bad I haven't done much of anything training wise with Moo lately (he's not in any class at the moment $$$$$$) so maybe this is the push I need to video some fundamental stuff ;)
