Let's try again this morning. Ok. Only 4 steps in this time. I guess that's progress? View attachment 81850
Thanks! He's not allowed upstairs as a rule and the upstairs is all carpet. It's easier to draw the line right at the stairs where the carpet starts. He’s so adorable. Out of curiosity, why can’t he go on carpet?

The carpet cleaning would really be a headache here with all the weather variation.

Removed treats. All verbal at this point. No progress. He ran after the grocery bag. Guess what, the humans need to eat too!

And then, he goes a step higherjust to prove that he can, I'm sure.

It is cute haha. I think me stopping to take a pic everytime he's violating the rules is reinforcing the wrong behavior though lol. It's soooooo hard!

We tether him to the railing before going for a walk. It's easier to get him ready that way too - jacket, prong, etc. He gets so excited seeing my hb put on his boots that he starts to interfere with him lacing up which makes my hb mad which doesn't help anyone so the tethering is necessary. If I'm standing there I ask Kaiser to 'back up' from my hb which also works. My hb just doesn't say the right commands because he makes the assumption that Kaiser should know better lol.Possibly, actually. Is he normally leashed to the railing like that or is it you doing that so he'll stay so you can grab a pic? I think you've answered your own issue here if its the 2nd half of the question.
Prompt correction and make him get off. Stalling the correction while you stand there, perfectly ok with it (to take a pic) only reinforces the behavior in the end. Be more prompt and clear to him.
