We have been walking almost daily to work on loose leash heeling (no prong) in the public. Today we had what I would call a medium amount of distractions (few joggers and A LOT of geese flew overhead) and she did great! We heel in the beginning and at the end, with tug play for reward, and then switch her to the harness in between so she can pull and sniff to her hearts content. It was a high of 15 degrees with wind chills in the negatives but we bundled Ripley up with a warm vest on her core then her EDD coat over top, plus constantly moving. She didn't complain once!

Hubby getting to heel her on the way back to the vehicle.

Good girl! You are walking in that cold? I tried a bike ride with Jasper the other day and the wind went through the holes in my helmet. I ended getting this freezing cold headache from it. I looked it up- and they are called cold weather migraines. Its like a brain freeze that lasts much longer. Now I stopped biking and wear a hat even when its 30 out.

Oh- and look how cute she is. I always laugh when I see a dobe nub under blankets and jackets. So adorable.

Yikes!! No I was bundled up just as much with two hoods up lol! We were all very comfortable. Ripley was as lively as ever! Couldn't imagine getting circular frost bite marks on my head lol good thing you quit before it got bad! Brain freeze hurts!!!

Ya when Katja was having me measure Ripley I made sure it would cover her bum entirely. Nothing like having a coat that doesn't keep the butt warm too... if only she put the mud flap down...

What a fun class we had this morning! We did recalls with a leave it on the way. I don't think I've ever purposely challenged my dogs to ignore a toy (that they REALLY wanted) right in their path on their recall to me. She did so good today!! Not perfect but dang near close and way more in tune with me heeling around cones, toys, and dogs and checking in with me. Last week her brain wasn't there like at all (she was also full blown in heat) Ripley's brain is worn out now and we are both happy.

She smells all nice now too after a bath.

This little cute ball almost got a neighbors cat today.

I was opening the car door to let him out. I had a coffee in my other hand (like every single day) and he jumped out before I got the leash hooked. Thankfully he had the e-collar but I had to ramp it up to get him to stop. He was SO close to chomping that cat!

Its just weird to think about. I literally go for a coffee run every day with the dog. Same routine for the past two years. These dogs definitely keep you on your toes.. so now I think ill pick up a rolled slip lead instead of fiddling with the normal “snaps.”

Bolting is just awful. I hope you work hard on this. Not just for the cat, but anytime they bolt after a critter, they aren't looking for cars. That would scare the bejeezus outta me! P.S. it still amazes me how small they can get in a ball in the bed!

It sucked. He usually stays in the car until I say “okay.” Same with getting in. We train in impulse control, but cats is a whole other thing. Not sure how we can work on that.
Start a thread in the training section. I'm working on it too. (not critters, not life threatening, but still impulse control can fly out the window when excited)
