Questions about non cropped ears

I came across this one from an acquaintance the other day of her un-cropped MinPin.

Thank you. As I said, if better educated earlier in our journey, we might have made another decision. We always try to respond in those instances in a way that provides support to those who have cropped ears.

I have learned to think that if you are getting comments about cropping/posting in public, it's normally safe to say that the person making the comment has never owned a Doberman. I have also noticed, that by and large, here we are on DCF, having both kinds, and completely at peace with the other's owners and ear styles. My dog's sister's owner and I often remark how we just love each other's dogs ear styles (2 are uncropped and 1 is cropped). I feel like if you actually own or owned a Dobie, you're just more understanding towards either outcome.

You asked about when she was little. This was her at maybe 10-12 wks. Her ears have always been heavier. The second photo is her mother with cropped ears.

We didn't crop our girls ears and didn't ever tape them down either. There was a short period of time where she had one that constantly sat up higher than the other, but it all worked itself out in the end. Hers still flip inside-out on occasion, especially when she's running around a lot and splashing in the water at the beach. But it's never been an issue.

Taping them down might be a good idea, just in case you're worried about them being uneven. I just don't have any personal experience with it.

They call it “Rose ears” but it looks very much like a flying nun ear to me. Depending on whether you’re into the ‘wild’ look - definitely too wild for my taste lol, no offence, he is still a cute pup - you could do nothing and just see how they turn out, or if you want a more controlled look like Sasha and Macha, then I’d tape them down. My concern would be if they’re half way up and it would look a bit too…cartoonish…like this. If that suits your dogs personality, that could be fine. But I prefer a more serious look whether cropped or not.

Here he is at 21 weeks old I think his ears are looking good. little goofy sometimes but he can still put on a serious face.

As to his ears, they are probably going to stay as they are. I actually think they suit him and his character shines through!

June had her wild ear until she was about 5-6 months old, but they both lay perfectly flat now. I was worried about hers for a while but never enough to tape them down or anything like that.

No matter how his ears end up laying, Oliver is one handsome little guy!

My girl. I had for sure intended to have her cropped but as I live in Central América didn't know if I could be assured of a good crop or not. Also when I got her at 8 weeks it was the beginning of the rainy season and wasn't sure I wanted to deal with that. Her ears did go through a bit of a wonky stage but settled down. But people have no doubt about her breed!

He looks terrific @Oliver's Dad - he's a pretty puppy! Haha, I know they all have their own quirks and at this age you start seeing their personality start to shine! Love to hear updates on him as he comes along.

I agree he looks terrific! I do crop my Dobermans and then I look at the uncropped ones like Oliver and, dang, I just love that look too! Wish we could get up in the morning and pick our Doberman's ears like my dad used to pick his suit tie and shoes. But we can't so I guess we just have to admire each other's dogs ears and I do love Oliver's with that wild look, which I am guessing do not betray his personality. If his ears change and go flat or if they stay the way they are, he's perfect!
