I know every dog is different, but I was wondering if anyone could remember when their little girls started the first heat cycle. Here's why- I want to enter Arianna in a rally trial in December- she is a few days from seven months. I am afraid I am going to pay the entry and end up forfeiting it if she comes into season. jsut kind of wanted a quick poll to see if we could get an avaerage age??? (yes I am VERY cheap!! dont want to waste money but would really like to enter this trial- she already has one leg toward her RN title. (brag, brag, brag!!!) :-)

Fate is 9 months... and NOTHING... I got Karma fixed at about this age too and nothing either... think your safe

1 came into her first heat cycle at 8 months but all my other girls (5) were 11 & 12 months. Not out of the ordinary.

lol with her laying down again, when she is ready to start :rofl2:
sorry couldn't help it, but that was to funny, hahaha

thats true, need to practice hard with Apollo, so we might can meet at one of those trials, but sure you are in advance, since you are a trainer :D and i'm a bloody novice ;)

well the even funnier thing is that after laying down at the start, she didn't want to lay down at the "down" sign!!!! I had people standing ringside just to see what she would do next!! You have to have a sense of humor, that's for sure!

LMAo, when we graduated from the basic obedience we had a little rally course, i was just hoping Apollo wouldn't embarass me and he didn't, but it was so much fun anyways ;)

Pandora went into heat around 7 months. Jezebel got spayed at 9 months and the vet said that she was thinking about going into heat when we got her done. LOL

Lexi just finished her first heat a bit ago...she started at about 9 months

LOL I think you will probably be cutting it close !!!

Well as Phoebe is the onyl intact, I got Penny spayed at 4 1/2 mo. but Phoebe came into her first heat at 12 months and has had a total of three now, so she just finished her third and we can go to the show :D

Lady had her first heat about 7 months.. but it was a very faint heat for the first heat..Hardly anything.. lets us know how she does and best of luck..

Della turned 9 months today and started her heat cycle in earnest yesterday.

I actually started a thread asking the very same thing a couple months ago, and the general consensus was that it can vary a lot, but somewhere between 7 and 12 months seemed to be average.

Thanx everyone!! well I sent in the money, now I am crossing my fingers!!! Come on ARI, no heat yet!!! or get it over with!! :-)

Whoops--I just saw this and wasn't quite in time to suggest that you ask her breeder when her bitches (particularly her mother) came in season.

The average is 6 months to a year but that's a big variation if you are trying to second guess a young bitch on a first season. However first heats tend to start at about the same time in family lines.

I know at least one line of Dobes that you could count on the a first season at 6 months, plus or minus two weeks. Even though I don't keep bitches I seem to spend a lot of time traveling with them and I was forever finding myself going to distant dog shows with my male puppies and one or more of his litter sisters--and worse...it always seemed that we had several litter sisters along right about the time everyone was just old enough to show--six months.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you on the December trial.
