Puppy biting is driving me insane!

OH LAAAWWWWD! I am right there with you all! Mauser who just actually turned five months on the 17th and we are still struggling every day with the biting, and it is more so for me only! He knows not to ever get mouthy with our two kids and my husband can stop him pretty quickly but for some reason with me he just doesn't quit so I end up just wrestling with him and get him to try to bite his lip or make him know he is hurting me. I will redirect him and tell him to give me kisses as well, its so funny because he knows when hes near my face he licks me but my arms and hands and BUTT are bite worthy! so so frustrating, especially because he nips me at the dog park and I feel like people are judging me as a dog owner
But some of the people there are real nice and there are other dobes and we swap teething stories LOL! It is really comforting that I am not alone with the dobershark struggles. His teeth are actually falling out and his adult teeth are coming in so now when he bites me its so funny because its like gums chomping down on me, and more slobbery!! I can't wait to see the light at the end of the tunnel, maybe 6-7 months??? someone say yes!! :woot2::linkme:

by the way, he also seems to be a little more attached to me than my husband, but that could be because I am the one that usually takes him for walks and dog park. he loves to sit in front of me and rest his snout on my face while I scratch his neck and chest, it is the sweetest!

mausercouch.webp Here we are being couch potatos, four days before he turned 5 months.

The butt, hahaha. Mila STILL loves meh butt. Sometimes it's mostly poking, but occasionally she loooves nipping to get momma to squeak, lol.

sorry if there's already a post about this on here but I couldn't see one. My pup is 14 weeks old and his puppy biting is getting out of hand. As a pup we would divert his attention to a toy when he nipped us but that only worked for a week or so and he started nipping again. He will only bite me and doesn't go anywhere near my partner's skin. To stop his nipping I have tried giving a very firm 'no' but it falls on deaf ears and he just grips harder. Have even given him a time out in a separate room to calm down and he's only allowed back through once he's calm. This no longer works as he comes straight back into the room and nips at me again. I'm trying my best to stop this behaviour but it seems out of hand at the moment and it drives me insane! Any suggestions of what I'm doing wrong. He's currently snuggled up to me like he's my best friend after a mad biting half hour!
Toys, toys, toys and then more toys. Then you have to make yourself the pack leader, my 8week pup was driving me nuts when I brought him home, have lots of patience on don't reprimand him just give him a chew toy and say something like "no bite"! With authority and he's got a lot better now, hardly ever nips @ me, now if I can stop him from nipping @ my wife and kids :woot2::woot2::biggrin::(

I relate 1000% to this. I got my first ever Doberman puppy when he was 10 weeks old. It's been roughly 4+ weeks with Mace in our home and reading these stories gives me hope. He nips, he bites, he barks and if I ignore him he will growl and bark louder while in a "downward dog" position (how fitting). Today while out for a jog towards the end he started jumping and nipping at my butt and back of knees. He ended up ripping my shirt in the process. We do the redirecting with toys, rawhides and such, but that only works for 2 seconds before he is back to nipping/biting. He does not respond to "NO" or "no biting" (while holding mouth shut) he only gets more worked up and bites harder. 76% of the time he is sweet and cuddly but when he starts biting, he doesn't stop to the point or breaking skin or in today's case, ripping clothes. From a new Dobe mom I'm feeling hopeless. Let's hope there's a big bright light at the end of this painful tunnel.

If he doesn't stop or won't redirect biting to a toy or tug, put him in his kennel for a short time out. I also correct by grabbing her by the scruff of the neck and giving a small shake while saying no.

Well when she was 7 weeks old I tried many things.
My mom and dad were not physically capable off picking her up from back of scarf so they were doing spray her with water and say No or hitting the newspaper on the floor. However newspaper could cause fear, she is 15 weeks old now and none the methods work.
One more you can try you can bring their head done and and tweak the cheek be mindful this worked even on our adult gps hunting dogs.
Sometimes I instead of giving tn her time out out I remove myself from her for 2 min by saying no for max 2 min. She understand if the play wants to continue she can not chewing your ankle. I was going to washroom close the door she was crying outside were did u go?
Also I balanced all methods.
She is not scared of spray of water or newspaper as I introduced the sounds back random so not promote the fear.
She is 26 lbs so I don't pick her up from back of scarf no more but I put her head down and tweak the cheek. Even she dose not cry like puppy as I am gentle but she knows she did bad. However I am extremely fast so she dose not even see it coming.
Also she was chewing vet hands and my friend later so 2-3 times I keep her mouth closed be gentle and do not repeat say closed then with other hand I show her a signal and this time in vet works and she dose not mouth my friends at all. Even if I say closed and show signal she stops barking most times.
Sametime you don't want to your pooch has fear of your contacts you need to balance balance it is hard and I loose it sometime but they really sensitive and smart learn from us watching us none stop.
She almost let's me to put my hand in her mouth and by her jaw gets soft. It was alot of work none stop.
He bark grrrrr from downward dog means wanna play and obviously as they do all their life wants to see her position in pack so tweak cheek down or back of scarf. No way out of this.
Now even every now and then when I give her order and running around d doing 100 things and she trying to nap on my feet she goes downward dog grrrrr but goes and pick the toy up and comes back! I love her but sometimes you need to be fast and very firm.
I can look at her and she stops something these days. All indoor however outdoor different show.

I try next time. By the way by news paper and spray in face she never went after my mom or dad after. Well they kind of quiet old and my dad has hip and walking issues she was still trying on me. My mom was saying it is like two of u trying to be the boss now! Now u understand what we have been dealing with.
:)

I think I posted this before but what worked for me and what my breeder told me to do is when they start biting/nipping grab their snout with one hand take the top lip and curl it up to their teeth so when they try to bite they are biting the inside of their mouth and then give a sharp no. Our pup caught on real quick but the correction has so be right away when they are nipping.

Don't do this If you ever want your dog to work protection, it will cause major issues.

The scruffing worked for mine. Now if they nip me it is by accident while playing with a toy.

I have been doing my best to work with my pup. She’s 14 weeks, about to be 15. I’m the ONLY one she nips at. When I take her to work, she’s fine with everyone there, but she continues to lunge at me and nip me. I’m lying in bed and I notice she’s biting on a cord. I grab the cord and tell her no, then she runs runs to my side of the bed, lunges, and nips me. She finally broke skin tonight and I didn’t know what else to do besides tackle her, grab her snout, tell her “No.” then I put her in her crate, took her toy away that she sleeps in and put her to bed early. The snout grabbing and telling her No does not work. I redirect her, and she’ll come right back to me after a few minutes and nips at me again. I can tolerate the play biting, but I feel like she bites and nips to hurt me. And I don’t know what to do anymore. I am frustrated. She has a great home, I show her lots of love, and she still wants to hurt me. I don’t get it

I am having this same problem but Apple is just 9 weeks old. I'm doing the hold the snout and say no, redirection and ignoring her afterwards. She loves to bite me and the kids ... It is super frustrating but I hear it's just because she is a puppy ... I'm ready for that faze to be finished!!
Keep her on a leash and use leash pressure to correct. When she is biting give her a negative reinforcer (No, phooey, bad ect…) lift her up with the leash, do not jerk her just steady leash pressure. Ask her to sit, this is capping the behavior, let the pressure off. If she acts up again put pressure up on the leash again. Repeat until she settles. Then quickly use a positive reinforcer (Yes, good, ok or a clicker) and let her bite a tug, toy, rag ect.. that is allowed. This will teach her what is ok to bite and what is not. All family members need to help in training this to be successful.

Going through the same with Norbert, who is now 14 weeks old. He has a lovely manner but goes through biting episodes a few times a day. Mostly nothing much, but would looking forward to when this stage is over. Hard to stay calm when he’s worked up.

Ahhh I Remember the days of the razor wire teeth bites. So I’m on my third Doberman. Only two liked to bite which happen to be my males. I stopped this within a few weeks for freedom. It may not be for the weary but once the bite happens, you need to out loud say” ouch “ or something to the effect. Immediately grab the snout and hold it shut and I use the term “no bite “. Works like a charm now with anything he gets ahold of and isn’t suppose to. You have to be repetitive and eventually your pup will realize it’s not fun for him. Just takes patience and firmness.
