Pet blood bank

I've been reading more and more recently about dogs giving blood.
Was just wondering if anyone on here has taken their dog along to a blood donor session? Or has even needed blood for their animals? It was introduced in the UK in 2007 but only recently have I become aware of it.


My husbands an avid blood donor and when the opportunity arises in our area, he's there giving blood.
I myself struggle to actually give blood. It's a bloody nightmare to get blood out of me lol

Just checked out the criteria and as of next week he ticks all the right boxes.

Definitely something to consider.

"The charity is particularly calling for owners of negative blood type breeds such as greyhounds, boxers, Doberman pinschers, German shepherds, flat coated retrievers, Rottweilers, Wiemaraners and bull mastiffs, to register their dog to give blood."

Found this online, too. It's a little old but still probably at the forefront. Interesting!

I wish I could donate blood. I'm just a useless giver
My nurse at the surgery hates it when I turn up to give a test. Honestly, I come out black and blue from all the failed attempts.

Three of my four are regular blood donors. Dobermans are perfect donors as they genetically carry the dog equivalent of O+ which makes them a universal donor.

My vet clinic hosts canine blood drives sponsored by the local emergency clinic twice a year.

I recommend everyone to donate, both human and canine if you are able as it is a nice way to give to those in need. If you can't find any blood drives around your area, contact your local emergency clinic as sometimes they have their own bank.

Wow! The nearest location for Kobi to donate blood is 152 miles away, jeez!!



I spoke to my vet today who has put me into contact with a veterinary clinic 40 minutes drive away from us. Where we can donate Kobi's blood.
