Parvo "survivors" ribbon idea?

Ok, I thought about this the other day....and since I have looked it up online. I see other people out there were of like mind!!
I was thinking there should be a Ribbon (like the pink cancer ribbon) for people who's pets have survived parvo. To recognize the suffering they went through, and the will to live they displayed. Also, the commitment to caring and taking care of them that the owners displayed. Everyone took the hard road & deserve a little recognition. Also, i think most of us who've dealt with parvo are HUGE proponents of telling everyone about appropriate puppy care (vaccinate, don't take into public too early, so on & so forth).

Would anyone be interested? I could hand make ribbons, I found some really cute ribbon that says I heart my dog. It's black & white with a red heart. I would have to find a way to make it a pin....this is all in the 'idea' stage. maybe I could even find a metal ribbon already premanufactured in bulk...I'll look into it more.

I figure all PROFIT would go 100% to a shelter that will use that money towards PARVO VACCINATIONS for canines.

What do you all think? No specific breed would be recognized....it's for ALL dogs.
I have a background as a Ebay powerseller, so I think i could get them out that way to the masses.

You know since my Penny girl is a parvo survivor, I would be up for this totally. ANd I am happy that all proceeds go to a shelter, be careful in choosing, please. But yes this is a great idea. I have been wanting to do something like this for Canine Epilepsy.

Let me know, I am willing to help

thanks TYE - And I think the canine epilepsy pin is a great idea too.
I actually found out those once popular rubber braceletes can be made into keychains. They'd run about $6 each & about 55% could go to profit.
It could be 2 colors & say something like : "my Dog is a Parvo survivor" on the top & inside could say : "Vaccinate your dogs!"
Any suggestions on a GOOD shelter (hopefully non-kill) that might work with us? Any contacts? I have a contact at the local shelter...but they are a kill shelter & I'd prefer to go with a non kill & one that's perhaps more widely known. I was thinking ASPCA- But, I'm not sure about them & their stance on a few important issues.

Or, maybe the $$ could alternate (by setting up separate auctions) between breeds most affacted by parvo (dobes, rotts, etc.) & a general auction non-breed specific. The money could be then donated through mission Fish to rescue groups for each breed ...and then the general fund could go whereever it'd be best put to use. the money is automatically donated this way (easier).

mmm Rachael, I do not have any ideas for a rescue or shelter but I do like the idea of it going to maybe a rescue that we choose for each month. You know like one of our rescues here, that can use the help for something. IDK, let me stew on that a bit. Please remind me in a few days about this thread, I will think about it but forget that this is here , lol

No problem...and I think I came up with a cool/affordable "ribbon" that's perfectly dog related. I am talking to the producer & once I have answers I can give details.
What color would you want to represent the epilepsy? I could make ONE order or both kinds parvo/epilepsy items (cost would be VERY reasonable). The colors are: silver ON
gold, red, blue, green, black, purple, lt. blue, or pink.
The total order would be for 50 pc. ...how many would you be interested in ? it can range from 1 (for yourself) to 25. I want at least 25 for the Parvo survivors.
I think I will choose either black (the dark tag would be the despair while the bright silver would equal the light at the end of the tunnel) or red.
Whatever is more popular---so pipe up people. if you have a parvio survivor & were to buy something that honored your pet as a survivor...would you prefer RED or BLACK?

Great idea Rachel!

Let us know what you come up with for a pin/ribbon and we can work with it. :)

I think I have it under control, so far...thanks for the offer to help Tina.
Actually I was thinking ribbon shapped dog tags that say "Parvo Survivor" on them would be awesome. Like I said, the black with silver engraving caught me because the darkness of despair to the light at the end og the tunnel.
the black also works as a mourning color for all those who do not survive, or get the opportunity to try.

i like the dog tags because 1.they are affordable & 2. the survivors themselves get to wear them! :)

Ooooo, you ARE good! I love your idea! Very cool. :)

Thanks...I just bought 100 1" buttons for the owners. So- I will be selling them as a set. One for the poochie, one for the owner. :)

I will let you all know when I egt the design finalized. I am not sure everything I am thinking of will fit.

Oh wow Racheal, I do like the black tag also for the Parvo idea and believe it or not Purple is the color for Canine Epilepsy. SO yes please order me at least 25 for now, I know I can sell all of them.

Like I said let me know what you need, I am right there with you about this whole idea. I LOVE IT!!!!

Cool! Ok, while I have the idea floating out here....Anyone think BSL red stop sign dog tags would be a good addition to the grouping?

You are good Rachael! Yes, I think that's another great idea!

Maybe we can work something out to have little "Parvo survivor" ribbons or awards for peoples profiles here too. :)

Rachael - i LOVE the BSL stop sign, freakin perfect. i want like 100 of those, lol

Jan - I also love the idea of the ribbon under our names. Perfect :D

What do ribbons really do? I suppose ribbons raise awareness of a cause. But when you are going through a shit storm of illness with a loved one, ribbons are irrelevant.
