Park Day/Photo Bomb

As soon as Brinks was tall enough to reach his big snout up to the handle he's been opening doors. The lever kind as mentioned. My mom had a lever handle types to the bed rooms and garage that was always kept open... I can't tell you how many times we'd be out in the yard and realize once again we forgot to lock it because here he'd come zooming around :eye roll:. We weren't so much worried about him running off as him letting out all the precious cold air in that old house in south Florida, and also his first line of attack was to dive into either his kiddie pool or the creek out back. THEN happily follow us back inside covered in stinky creek mud. Oh boy I tell you what he was SO MAD when she changed the handle out to a round one LOL

@Kaiser2016 @DN2017 @LifeofRubie @Ddski5 I love how knowledgeable you ALL are on Dobermans. It’s actually very impressive. These are all great suggestions and I will start implementing these because I don’t want to mess anything up with her in her growing stages. That’s so funny they learn so fast, what they see is do, such as opening doors.

@MyBuddy yes she has had her shots already for sure. Before she got them I wouldn’t let her go anywhere or let anyone else at the house touch her. That got frustrating so we went and got them ASAP.

@Brioddy @GOD'S GRACE depending on what type of photo or theme or scenery the older cameras could actually be an asset to have laying around, could make for an epic photo!
And thank you I think we’re going to do some epic pictures of them when they are small and when they get bigger redo the same picture.
ROTFL I hate when all the air in the house gets let out cause they are so spoiled, and then it’s BATH TIME HAHA

@PrincessDuchess865

I’ll be the first one to question me being “knowledgeable”????

I usually learn things the hard way and if I can help anybody else out through my errors, trials and tribulations then we are doing good with life.

So much easier when I actually know what I’m doing. Without this forum, there is no way I would be doing what I am doing and Ragnar would be a crop and flop.

There is just so much to know with these dogs...half the info is easy to forget until you put it into practice. Then you have to question everything you think you might already know about pets. Like I say, there is nothing simple about these Dobermans!

What adorable shots and I agree that the one of her with the leash in the mouth is priceless!

My male Bogie knows how to open door knobs, cabinets, refrigerator, louvre closet doors, zippered back packs and even knows how to honk the horn on my truck. :facepalm:Now I have to lock doors, tape the fridge door and have installed magnet locks on the cabinets.
These guys are pretty darn smart and you will spend a LOT of time trying to out smart them.
Bacall doesn’t open things but she sure joins in the fun when Bogie does. I hide everything and seems I have to use h2o2 every couple of weeks because they swallow EVERYthing they chew!:rp:

Sorry to hear but glad to know that even the expert @Tropicalbri's has issues with swallowing. I don’t feel like such a bad owner then.....Whew!!!

I have not posted about it but had to induce vomiting one night with h202. I was washing my truck and thoroughly saturated a small paper towel with Black Magic tire shine to clean tires. That shit came out of no where and grabbed it out of my hand!! He was sooo fricking fast I did not know what happened until he was across the yard and he swallowed it whole.

Really, really had me worried....all those chemicals in that stuff?.?.?

Used h202, 1tsp per 10lbs- 10 mins later he upchucked it up.

Relieved I was....

Whoa! So it actually worked? How long did it take? Did his food come up too?

@Kaiser2016

Yes, it did work. Was not a violent throw-up either. I had him on leash outside so I could keep an eye on him. After about 10mins, he calmly threw it up along with his entire 6:00pm meal. The entire incident happened around 8:00pm.

I cleaned it up and he went to the water bowl and drank some water. I waited an hour and then fed him 1/2 of normal kibble meal because he was acting ravishingly hungry.

No noted issues for rest of night or next day.

Caution gross pictures!

Well I feel your pain. I heard a clinking noise early this morning and found Bogie eating chocolate kisses out of a bowl that had a lid on it, that was on the kitchen counter.
He got the lid off and was swallowing those kisses whole with the wrappers on.
Man I went into action grabbing the syringe and peroxide and he knew what was coming so off to the bathroom he runs to hide from me.
I counted 10 kisses in his puke that was chocolate foam. I drag him to the clinic at 6am, Get the X-ray set up and take a picture to see what’s left in there.
These guys will give you gray hair before your time. His breakfast was chicken and rice.
Since it was milk chocolate and I calculated amount he ingested to his weight, he is below the low end of it causing problems since he threw them up. You can’t take your eyes off these guys even after they are no longer puppies.:machinegun::pullhair:E1B49F26-82AC-449F-A864-6D65785F094A.webp833B63FB-2399-404D-B150-A8BDEC085772.webp 8E79C76C-D424-4B17-8E8B-FA03AA758F9E.webp7557F67C-2937-4564-860E-22BC6DE3A588.webp It will be a while before I can eat chocolate again after looking at this!

Oh my goodness...poor boy....poor you too...cleanup is a beach! ...

I don't do half of the things I'm supposed to, but I do keep the food secure and I really watch everything Grace could consume...losing Missy has made me super sensitive to that.

Sure hope he's perking up!

I didn't know whether to hit empathetic or funny but I did start chuckling! I mean, he sure is a sorry sight but the look on his face still was a little funny. Poor guy!

You know, years ago, before I knew anything about chocolate being bad for dogs, I had a Pomeranian eat some chocolate. It was that world's finest chocolate that the kids sell in School. I don't know how much she ate but she was a small dog. I didn't do anything because I simply didn't know and she was fine. Sometimes I wonder about all these things that they say are bad for them. Not that I'd want to give them any if it, believe me! But it's just like grapes. I told somebody that they were poisonous to dogs and they told me, gosh, I used to throw grapes to my dog all the time ! Go figure.

The chocolate can be deadly if it is the dark bakers chocolate that causes neurological problems because of caffeine and theobromine and possible death if enough is consumed. It would take a bucket of milk chocolate to cause issues and even that would be more gi upset.
It would take a 5ga bucket of grapes to cause issues. I believe it’s the polyphenols in grapes that are toxic to the kidneys and can cause kidney failure.
I remember feeding frozen grapes as a treat on occasion to my first dobe and never had any issues but then again it wasn’t a daily or even weekly treat.
Now my pups get fresh green beans. I will clean cut and freeze them to toss as a frozen treat.

@Ddski5 that is a good and quick response! Ya with the chemicals, inducing was the right call. Had it just been the tissue, I would have left it. I noticed Kaiser loves tissue, he'll chew it and spit it out. If I chase him to take it, he swallows it. I now try to distract him with a treat so he drops the item without me addressing it. Not sure if that's the best idea. So I will usually just watch him as he does this and then casually spits it out. He is not interested in brown paper products though. It's almost like he's attracted to the bleaching agent? He also likes to tear up white paper which is bleached. Flyers made of recycled material don't interest him the same way.

@Tropicalbri's Recycling sounds like a Dobie thing lol. Kaiser got fed his kibble twice one morning and he threw it up. That day I was on my own with him, so I just stood there trying to figure out how to pick it up. It was slimy like Bogie's. Then he starts licking at it and I wanted to puke. He would have eaten it! I quickly grabbed the dust pan and used the brush to scoop it up. That dust pan is now his. I highly recommend it for slimy pick up though. Worked quick and cleaning it off was easy too and it doesn't hold any smell.

I have a dust pan just for them. If it’s food he tosses up, I turn my back and leave the room. That stuff is expensive to throw away.
When I come back it’s all cleaned up. Of course I don’t do that if it’s toxic or bile. That I cleaned up immediately. He eats so fast sometimes that he pukes it back up in pretty much the shape it went down in. :D
That is when I tell him he has to learn to clean up behind himself. Lol
