Now It's My Turn To Worry :(

    Morning Everyone,

This morning when I got the dogs our of their crates I looked at Chloe's lump and felt it and it is rock hard. This is definitely not a hematoma so I decided to call and reschedule her surgery for the earliest they could get her in. She's now going in on the 17th of December. I'm still taking Herc in today to weigh him but, in looking at Chloe from the top, her whole stomach area is caved in from her chest area to her pelvic region, so she may well have lost 20 pounds this past month. She's always had a straight profile looking at her from above or behind. I mean she's usually straight with no deviations from her shoulders to her behind. She's definitely curved in in that area now. I pray this isn't the worst case scenario but if that weight loss is a marker I'm not sure what to think right now. Thanks for your prayers and support. I'll keep you posted.

Mary Lou I have been sitting here reading and rereading your post trying to think of something to say to ease your mind. I had thought that with how quickly this lump came up that it had to be from an injury ( I am still praying that it is). I am glad you are going to test the scales with Herc, just to make sure. Please keep us posted and know their are LOTS of available shoulders here if you should need one!!

I'm glad you got it rescheduled. The sooner the better to ease your mind. Are her lymph glands enlarged?

Sometimes weight lose is so gradual we do not even notice until it's a lot. Did they do a full blood panel?

I'll certainly be praying for you both!! 20lbs sounds very extreme but down from 100lbs it's probably a healthier weight especially for a female, depending on why she lost it.If you switched from a higher fat content food to one with more protein,I'd think that could be a reasonable weight loss over time for Chloe, the scales could vary too. Please let us know any updates!!!

No MB, the only thing they tested was the sample of blood that they withdrew from the lump on Chloe's hip. And I know what she weighed a month ago; it was 101 pounds. I periodically just take both my guys in and weigh them myself. So you've given me some more food for thought. Thanks.

Don, Chloe's normal weight was right around 93 1/2 pounds up until last winter when she bulked up to 101 pounds. You can see form Sally's pictures she's perfectly proportioned for her height which is 26 1/2 inches at the shoulder. She's a big girl. Not fat at all.

I sure hope you're able to get it figured out Mary Lou... Maybe it's just the angle, but she honestly doesn't look underweight to me, so as stated, I bet the scale was off, or they forgot to tare it before she got on, or something like that...

Oh crap....I just found this thread, and I am so sorry you are going through this!!
She does look like she lost some weight, but 20 lbs.??!! THAT would be so noticeable, especially in a month. I don't think you could miss that!! I would assume the vets scale is off. I know our vet's is. I can get a 30 lb. difference one reading to the next with Emmie and Fire at our visits (they move so much & the scale sees a lot of use).

The lump just showing up is weird too. My last Dobe had cancer & you could find a lump suddenly one day,. but it was small. As the months went on, you could see it get huge. But overnight show up huge? Strange...
But, I guess the vet knows his stuff. It's for sure best to have it removed & find out it wasn't cancer rather than to leave it & find out it was.

My thoughts & prayers are with you. Please keep us updated.
    HUGS TO YOU! :grouphug:

Sorry about Chloe ! The way shes looking in those pics...I would say she looks really good ! So i hope their scale was off ! And as for the lump...I hope she was just rough housing and gave herself a good whack ! Keep us up to date !! Shes just too darn young for this stuff !!! And maybe since the vet gave you a heads up on her hips...start giving her supplements maybe that will help delay any probs ! Ohhhh...bummer...racking my pea brain trying to think of other things it could be...dont wanna even go the whole big " C " word

Oh man. I know about the C word too well around here as Java has it. She got her bumps removed this past fall. Her bumps didn't appear out of nowhere though. We found them, watched them for a few weeks and noticed the one disappearing then coming back so we took her in to get aspirated. No blood came out, it was clear and only the cells were aspirated. The doctor put them on a slide and it dried right away, which made her worry because she said its known for cancer to do that. We caught it "soon" enough that luckily it's a type 2 and not a type 3-which has a greater chance of coming back. Your bump doesn't sound like cancer to me so lets hope there's some other reason for it. I can't imagine her losing that much weight in one month, she looks great imo.

Prayers for Chloe are being sent! I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Thanks all of you guys for your prayers and support.

I just made a run to the vets and weighed both my guys. To be on the safe side I weighed myself before we went because if their scale said Herc was underweight I was going to get on it and weigh myself there. But it's not their scales. Herc weighed 102 pounds and Chloe had gained form yesterday and she weighed 82 pounds. So she must have weighed even less than 79 pounds yesterday because I didn't make her wear her sweatshirt today. On the bright side she's gained back 3 pounds; but on the flip side this still means she's lost an awful lot of weight in a short amount of time. She was at 101 pounds a month ago. I'm starting to think the worst. I had to bribe her to eat today. Usually she empties their food bowl about two and a half times in the morning and again eats about the same amount in the evening. Today I had to sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the kibble to get her to eat it. And she only ate 3/4 of the bowl. She did drink a good amount of water when we got back from the vets, but not right after she ate like she normally does.

Shoot Mary Lou I was really really hoping there had been a mistake on the scales:(
I hope you can keep coaxing her to eat to keep her strength up till the surgery and you can find out whats going on!! :bighug: to both of you and thanks for the update!!

Ok so lets spoil her for a time being....get some boneless chicken breast and boil it and put some of that with the juice on her food...I would say do wut ever you can to get her to eat!!! Keep her strength up until her surgery.....When Cody had her surgery for bloat she lost a lot of weight fast, seem these furkids can do that....so if you even have to just feed her the chicken at least she is getting something, that is wut I did with Cody, oh and some cottage cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs....wut about those ball things someone posted on here to help gain weight....someone???????? I would say anything to keep her from losing anymore weight until surgery.....I know I'm rambling, just trying to hit every thing .......she is such a sweetie, she just has to be ok......

Thanks for the link Tina. A word of caution for you though. It might be better to let Apollo decide on his own when he's ready to eat after you bring him home. Anesthesia can sometimes make them throw up if they eat to soon after it. My advice would be to put his food and water out where you normally do and let him get to it when he's ready. Mine usually start with their water the first few hours after their home. Sometimes it's not till the next morning before they're ready to put anything solid on their stomachs. He may eat to please you but then suffer the consequences by tossing the whole thing up.
