Neutering Nerves

I’ve rented AirBnB’s in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. I’d say about 1/3 of the “pet friendly” ones only allowed small dogs, but I’ve never personally seen them require the dog to be neutered. I wonder if that is something certain property management companies are requiring?

Side note, but I always found the “small dog only” thing kind of funny, as they tend to be not as well trained.
Lol, I hesitate to say this (and never would to an owner) but if you think Dobes are inbred, look at the popular toy breeds.

Call me a Big Dog Snob but I have pretty much no use for them, (with exceptions) and think too many have been too inbred for necessary room for brains...😆🤣😉

I have a funny-not funny story I probably should not share here about my BW soul dog GSD rescue...

i picked up Mr. Colt yesterday at 5. I had my brother with me to help lift him into the car. I poked the door to the crate and we both squatted to raise him up and he jumped in before we could do anything. I didn’t expect to have to restrain him on the ground until we were ready. When we got home my husband and I had more time to prepare because he only jumps out on cue, and I’ve proofed that one a lot. He let out a little whine when we got him out. I think he was being stoic at the vet in front of people he didn’t know.

He went pee and poo on leash when we got home from the vet then stepped up on the couch very carefully and sat there like this until I sat with him and he fell asleep.

He did great overnight on his bed in our room. This morning I changed his recovery suit and let him be naked for a little while to go potty on-leash. The suit had some little crusties on it from the gastropexy incision but no discharge. And no marks at all from the neuter incision. But that wasn’t directing touching the fabric so I didn’t expect anything there.

He’s still feeling poorly today so keeping him calm has not been hard. But I’m sure it’ll get harder as he starts feeling better.

The vet complemented the cleanliness of his ears and teeth and said she hasn’t seen a dog with such a nice manicure in a long time. She said she didn’t see him a lot before he got drugged up but the techs said he was very sweet.

Now for the mandatory ear rubs and chin scratches… I don’t know who enjoys that more, me or Colt.

You and husband are such good parents!
Colt will rebound soon.
I betcha he is enjoying the extra attention!

That's the exact look we get from ours when they're still coming off the sedation. Poor babies...

I bet by tomorrow it's going to start getting to be a challenge. That's another reason I like to get them off any pain meds sooner than later so they don't try to over do it thinking they feel fine. Of course I don't like to see them in pain but I don't want them running around like a maniac either.

Thats what we did with BYB Bonnie- as soon as the stitches were looking solid, (2 days) we cut back on the pain meds by half...the vet said same, got 5 days but can ease off earlier as you see she is healing...just take it easy on exercise for a couple weeks.

Pain is natures way of saying "take it easy to heal up".

Just another example of "learn from the dog in front of you".

Annie too! She slept that whole first day. And after that it seemed like a quick recovery! Never had any pain meds and never had to use the "icky" stuff the vet gave me to put on her incisions. She never touched them. Hugs and kisses to Colt for being such a good boy!

IMG_5352.webpColt woke up this morning ready to GO! I had to really convince him he couldn’t go out off leash. He settled down after breakfast and now he’s dozing on the PEMF pad. Limited research on beagles (very limited. Like 20 dogs) showed it helps abdominal incisions heal faster.
