Need serious training advice

No exaggeration, I literally cant even remember the last time that she layed next to me to cuddle or let me pet her while inside. If I go to pet her inside, 9 times out of 10, she wants to nip or get all crazy playing. I understand shes still a puppy and full of energy wanting to play, but I feel it's just absurd while inside at all times. No joke, it's probably been atleast 6 weeks since the last time she has took a nap next to me or just layed next to me while inside. At one point I was able to "occupy" her for short periods of time with a bone, but now those events only last about 5 or 10 min.
My boy is the same and he's about 1.5yrs old. He doesn't like to be pet (petted ?) he doesn't like to cuddle. My previous dobe was very different. We train every day and he is a joy to work with but doesn't like to sit around and do nothing. He wants to go-go-go every minute. He is crate trained and will lay in his crate calmly. I give him about 1 hour of free running most every day when we go hiking for 4-8 miles. Still when we get home, he eats and then is back to wanting to go do something. I can take him out to eat at places that allow dogs and he's well behaved but I always feel rushed because he doesn't like to do nothing for very long. We can go out and play 2-ball for 30 minutes straight and he seems exhausted at the end but by they time we're home he still doesn't like doing nothing.
Keeps me active though

My boy Hoss is 3.5 years. He’s a Euro.....and yep.......he has a system....there are certain times to sleep ....and certain times to play...........if ever I try to skip out on a routine session......he stands right in front of me and stares. He will block me from viewing the TV if necessary......so he has me trained....I stay on schedule.....it only takes bout 5-10 minutes and he’s ready to settle down until our next scheduled event !!!LOL
Hoss keeps me moving!

Do you know what caused it? Them trying to catch a flying ball or just simply the head shaking while holding the ball?
The ones I've read about are larger and hard. The ball is on the ground and the dog ran up to it quickly and tried to bite - probably not realizing how hard the ball is. Maybe there are different sizes and hardness of jolly balls, I'm not sure.

They're definitely are different size jolly balls, not sure about hardness though. I saw 2 when I found mine, I got the larger of the 2 (I think 10 inch diameter if I remember right). Its not a hard plastic, but not a soft ball either. It's a rather firm rubber, I could see it being hard enough to do that though given the right variables.

This is the hard Jolly Ball. Designed for floating in a pool or skimming the snow. He approached it with cautious familiarity since he also had the Jolly Egg. He had no problem finding the perfect speed for continuous play. He pretty much pushed it along with his face and then chased it with his mouth open.F1D7BC65-4CE9-4B64-93F2-6837FF248EF8.webp

Mines the one with the big rope through it, cant remember exactly what its exact name was. I was kicking it around for her outside tonight, so it was soft enough for that. But I was wearing my composite toe work shoes though, not sure I'd have been kicking it as hard in regular tennis shoes ha.

@Mearntain

Beautiful Doberman in that picture but I sure like that Ford truck!

Thanks, shes definitely a handful but slowly getting better.

I definitely love that truck too, it's a 64. I just got it this past fall and have pretty much completely restored it so far, minus exterior and paint. I got a great deal on it from a friend at work because they never had the time to mess with it and jokingly I told him I'd give him scrap value for it, and they agreed! His grandpa bought the truck brand new in 64, so I pretty much got it from the original owner and had been garage kept since the early 90s.

I have a 66 Fairlane ragtop....had success yesterday, been looking for a parasitic battery drain for weeks and finally found it.

What size engine is in your truck?

Good stuff, I've got a buddy with Fairlane in the same generation too, cant remember the exact year right now though.

Mines got the 223 with 3 on the tree.

A little before and after of under the hood I made I a little while back.

I went and got a lunge whip and tied a tennis ball to the end. wow. It is my saving grace. I use it like a flirt pole and it's become his hands down favorite toy. Someone here gave me the idea...cant recall who...sorry, but I save it for when I really need him to be tired...right before nap or last outside thing we do before snuggles inside then bed. He will chase that think till he drops! I also use it as a great training tool that he does not even realize! We practice sit, wait, leave it, release, drop it, omg, best toy ever!

That's a great idea. I'll give that a shot! Thanks

Tennis Balls :pullhair: so dangerous. I have know of more dogs with severe medical issues due to tennis balls. Many of them not surviving. Be careful if you let your dogs play with those.

I had no idea...just one more reason I love this site, thanks! We actually removed the ball from the whip after 2 days, he is just as happy to chase the whip lol and it was easier that trying to keep them from falling off lol

Try tying something else to the whip if you need. I used a partially destroyed stuffed animal toy. Agree that some tennis balls can be dangerous. I found the pet smart types to be very dry and easily chewed up.

An old dish rag, leather rag, burlap sack are all cheap and easy things for the dog to chase and bite. Or tie a tug toy to it.
