His face is so adorable! Looking at the nails is another hint. If they look like thin cat claws, then they are younger than 8 weeks.

How does he handle stairs? At 8 weeks, Kaiser couldn’t use them but that lasted a whole 5 days before he started figuring them out and getting into all the trouble! Lol.


The ears actually look good though! The single stitch style is supposed to be ideal too.

I agree to not dwell on it. Just enjoy that innocent little face because the crazy puppy phase is going to arrive and then you won’t have a moment to think

Current girls were done like that. (Not 'exactly' a single stitch in my case - up the long edge was the single but down by the bell there were a few more 'individual' stitches)

Freaking love the way that all turned out (the edges and all + how smoothly and fast the stitch removal went). Looked like a seamstress did the work!

To the point where I would ask about it if interviewing Vets because I was getting ears done going forward...

I would hope not, but most breeders will bring them to a reputable vet to have them cropped before they go home. It looks like a decent crop so I doubt they did it themselves.

This is an interesting case. If the pup is younger than reported, as some are speculating, then what vet would've done the crop? Actually, Oji's crop was not done by a vet, rather by someone who just really knew what they were doing. Is there a law regarding this? You know, in all my research that involved some breeds that receive very short crops (like your Corsos, Dogos, Alabais, Boz Sheps, etc.) I get the strong sense that some breeders just do the crops at home. Of course, it's a lot easier to be capable of doing a very short crop than one like a Dobe gets. Either way, that person would really have to make double sure they know anesthesia, and they know sterile practices.

Well, edit: I think those LGD breeds that get most of the ear cropped off get it done at the time of tail docking if that is being done, and this is at just a few days. I am not sure if they even put the dogs under for it.

I believe they need to be a certain weight to get anesthesia. At least that's what Ripley and Revels crop vet requires for him to feel comfortable doing the crop. Any less I believe they are at risk of being too fragile, possibility of not waking up?

Great points regarding needing to be licensed to buy anesthesia, and regarding dogs being too young to receive it. I didn't think about the latter.

Yeah, Oji's crop was not done by the breeder. It was a friend or colleague who is pretty well known in those particular working Dobe circles, and I want to say she works at a vet clinic. Her work is just beautiful, and we were shown pics of the work before signing on. Remember, Oji's litter was not going to be cropped because the breeder has given over (as I call it) to the uncropped, undocked fancy; however, enough of the buyers wanted cropping that it was offered to the buyers of the males. The breeder was keeping a female, so none of the females could be cropped/docked. Ahyhoo.

I did!! My first attempt was too tight and second attempt was a bit loose. It’s tricky but we’ll get it down.

Look forward to finding out how the DNA test turns out...TONS of info on this forum, so enjoy! Looks like a little doll, and as mentioned; will be maturing quickly into a wild puppy once he feels comfortable in his new surroundings!

He’s horribly clumsy with stairs! Hahaha he’s a bit intimidated by them atm but with a little encouragement he shows me he’s a brave boy and goes for it. Thanks for the cat claw tip!

You will get it! Make sure you are using a porous and breathable tape like Zonas or Kendall. You probably could also use a little less tape. Two or 3 pieces.
