Interesting article about vaccine hesitancy

Good article. I strongly believe in vaccines for diseases that are deadly or spread wildly and/or can cause serious illness. I do believe some animals can have harsh side effects but I think they are rare. I don't believe in over vaccinating or giving 20 vaccines "just because you can". Like everything else, a person has to think and not react to the latest sensationalism. Also anyone who nods blankly when their vet suggests getting every vaccine available including diseases that are rare or non-existent in their area, well, that's not thinking either. What happened to common sense?
Thankfully our vet doesn't even suggest many of them. Many places around here require proof of certain ones, including bordetella before you can start a training class or board at certain places.

I MUST receive your signed class application, waiver, vaccination info and payment by November 3rd, for a guaranteed spot in class. I will contact you via text when it is received. Please remit a copy of your dog’s/pup’s current vaccination records, this includes rabies if your pup/dog is 6 months or older. We also STRONGLY recommend the Bordetella vaccination for your dog/pup as there are multiple dogs in our facility.
That's pretty common with boarding/training places. I've never given that vaccine because I don't train indoors with other dogs or at a dog boarding/kennel type place and when I trial most of the time we crate out of the car. Once or twice a year the nose work trials I go to crate indoors, but I still don't worry about it. I probably would opt for it if I spent lots of time going to crowded shows every few weeks all year long.
It's like kids in school - if you show up and there's a bug, you're going to get it. Or airplanes - I haven't flown in years, but when I did I'd always get a cold or flu-bug. So yeah, closed in areas with close contact your dog will pick stuff up. Going to a show once or twice a year, I don't worry about bordetella.
I do core vaccines once and then titer. I will never understand giving rabies vaccines every 1-3 years. If a titer shows protected why do we give more?

That's the way ours does it too since he doesn't believe in overdoing it.
That doubles or triples the cost per year where I am at and with the places I have available that will do it.

Yup. Same here in socal- titer is 3x more.
And in CA requires vet to list a reason, as a medical exemption, in order to have the titer approved by the state issued rabies certificate...current copy required ny law for municipal or county dog license, and going camping at a county, state or national park, stay in hotel, for TSA form if travel by air or train...service dog tags, etc.
Teh Gubmint...grrr.
It's $39 for me and well worth it as far as I am concerned.
My girls sleep nights in a state that recognizes their 3 year rabies certificate wut they got got from a Vet in the same state.
At the main 'work' place (in the next state over) they do not recognize those 3 yr certificates...
The particular city in that same state also tacks on an extra 'fertility fee' for any any unaltered dogs that want a city rabies tag and license certificate. They tied that crap together for some extra taxing purposes.
Pretty much half their days, every day with them not being 'licensed' in that particular state.
I prefer to vaccinate less if I can help it but like you, have to follow whatever rules depending on where you live.
Wow I've never seen that before but I'm not sure this city requires a license for a dog anymore. We live just out of the city limits so I don't keep up on it.
Pretty much was a fine for having unaltered dogs if living in that city.
