I NEED HELP!

Okay some of you know me by now with my 4 month old boy Titus.
I am having a hugh issue with him I am not sure how to fix it.
It doesnt matter if its first light or bed time, when he comes in on leash I make him sit and stay but when I unhook him or say ok its like we released the bull. He just goes nuts. Runs and growls and is just super roudy. I want it to STOP!
He will not calm down he does the same thing whenever we let him out of the crate. We usually have to get onto him seversl times telling him to go lay down before he stops.
He is crazy. Very stubborn but smart. It doesnt help to crate him to calm him cuz he go nuts when we let him out. Help!!!!
In the house is quiet time. How do you achieve that?
Hes almost 50 lbs and tall.
He got a xlg crate today too:)

Don't unleash him right away.Don't say "it's ok"
****I am no pro dog trainer,so I'm responding with how I would handle it given the info provided****

Sounds like he needs more exercise, when my girl comes in and we unleash she wants to lay down and chill on the cool floor.
Another thought is providing much more mental stimuli before coming in.Believe it or not working that brain wares them out pretty good too, just like a good long walk.
Is he food driven?Meaning,if he knows you have a treat do you have his full attention? The good, calm boy gets the treat, the unruly boy has to calm down to get it;)

your first problem I see....and I am sure there are many that I could help to address.....is that you are telling him several times to do something. In my house it is - you are told once, if you don't do it, you are made to do it. Get him into obedience classes, have controlled walking sessions with him, have a session or two a week at a doggy day care. There are many outlets for a dog with a lot of energy.

I use to have the same issue when my girl was younger. She went through obedience classes which helped also after a long walk if she still had alot of energy I would play fetch with her in the backyard till she calmed down. Another thing I would do is take her to the dog park she LOVED the dog park she always wore herself out there.

Ours is similar. A pro when on leash but gets a little crazy off leash. How much on leash training have you done? We did on leash first, and then gradually transitioned to off leash. You can get a long light line to transition. He will still be attached to it, but to them it feels like freedom. If he tries to run or break your command you step on the light line and regain control. If the light line is too drastic and you're not getting any progress, try leaving the main leash on him so he can still feel that weight and you can grab that easily to correct him rather than trying to chase him and catch him first.

Hes a puppy and he is excited. When you come home do not greet him. But open the door and immediately take him out to potty and run around. Raw bones are a great reward for laying and watching TV at night. I start all puppies this way to teach them to calm down in the evening. If he has been crated he just need to burn off some excess energy. I hope you are training and socializing him all that helps to calm a puppy down.

Okay ill explain more detail.
I have two dogs titus and tiko my pom. Im not in good health at all and my husband travels a lot so we got Titus for my protection. We live way out in the country on a family farm. We have had a couple of prowlers so with research I figured the Doberman would be the best for their minds and loyalty!
I had no idea I had to to spend 100% of my time working with Titus.
It never stops.
He has had lots of leash time. He gets tied up on a long cable and Tiko get tied on another so they are across from one another. He runs and plays ,lays in the shade, rolls in the grass. My husband plays fetch with him on the hill till Titus loses interest. He walks the Acre yard fence with him off leash everyday he is home from travel. Titus gets quit a bit of activity. Im home most the time so hes not crated a lot. But if you guys are telling me he has to have more exersise than that then he maybe the wrong dog for us.
I work with him on sit stay lay
down heel. He gets treats when he is obedient. Im thinking about finding some classes for him but if all the exersise he gets still isnt enough then all I can say is oh my!!!

Ok,more info.:thumbsup:Sorry to hear your health is poor. Are you mobile?
Yes,they need exercise daily.Your acre is fenced you say.Is it secure?Meaning could you let him out to run?Sit on the porch and throw the ball on days your husband is gone?Throw it till his tongue is hanging out!:D If you're physically unable to throw a ball get a tennis ball launcher like they use on the court.A friend of mine had a Rottweiler that learned to drop the ball herself into the launcher;)
Also, don't underestimate the mental exercise!!!!!! Work on the basics, sit, stay, down, come, heal, speak, etc.Mix it up for him,do some hide and seek, find the treat. Some ob classes would do wonders.
Now,that was my positive side of the post.

Question. Please don't take this as me being critical. Why tie off both dogs?In a fenced acre? Can they touch each other? If not can you see how that might cause some frustration on the part of a puppy?

Now the part you might not want to read.Again, not being critical.
If the pup is proving to be too much for you maybe contact the breeder about returning him so he might get a home more suited to his needs. If you made a mistake getting the pup, well you're human. We all make mistakes.Don't make another by taking on more than you're physically able t:confused:nly you know if you have it in you.

For your security needs get an ADT or like home alarm system and a Colt Python .357 Magnum or a shot gun loaded with buck shot.

Thanks. I have ADT and a 44! My fence is barb wire and I tie them becsuse of the horses ,cows and eating their crap out in the pasture lol :D we are talking about getting a dog wireless fence.
I can get around okay but when I am having a painful day im pretty much on the couch.
I cant return to breeder because he no longer has dogs. Hes out of the biz. Plus I paid to have his ears done so if I have to part with him im going to sell him. I will only ask about 650 for him he has AKC parents but he has no papers!
He already bows up at strangers and barks at strange noises. I feel he will be beneficial. I love Titus I just didnt know it was a nonstop kinda thing. Hes the first dog other than a german Shephard ive had thsts so demanding and the gsd was worse.

My fence is barb wire
Yikers! That scares the bejebbers outta me. I know some folks do barb wire for cows but around horses and dogs...omg. Dangerous! I am out in the country too and in all my travels I have rarely seen barbed wire. Most folks use a hot wire instead. But for fencing around dogs I wouldn't even use that.

I would not want my dog running around loose with a barbed wire either so I can see why your husband walks him leashed. But having an area where he can full out sprint would really be nice. Not everyone has the property to do that though. :(

My first thought with this is just an excited puppy. With a ton of energy. He is 4 months old! Still a youngster with lots of energy to burn. Do you have children? Even if you haven't raised children, most of us know that children can go none stop! LOL We all say, Gosh, I wish I had half their energy!! :D Well, a puppy is the same way. Boundless energy that needs to be directed.

There are so many breeds that are great couch potatoes, but when you want a working dog (ie a protection dog, a watch dog, etc) you have to realize the work that goes into it. These dogs can be a 'natural' at being a great watch dog. But no dog can be left to their own defenses and grow up perfect. It takes a lot of work on our part.

What everyone is telling you is true. I hate to tell you since you feel you cannot provide it, but he needs more exercise, more mental stimulation, more interaction. All of this will tire him out.

He gets tied up on a long cable and
This never tires out a dog. My dogs want me out there with them. Even on a beautiful day with a beautiful large back deck, my dogs don't last long before they want in. Now, if I were out there with them? They'd stay out all day! This breed is a family dog and wants, needs , to be with their family. Just tying them out does nothing. No exercise, no stimulation.

I hope we can help you find more ways to stimulate and exercise your pup. I always hate to hear folks give up on a dog like its disposable. Please let us know what helps and what doesn't and we will keep trying to find something that works for you and your handsome boy!

I appreciate what you are saying but we have 300 acres of old fencing for cattle that know boundaries and im not about to change it now. My fence on three sides of yard is goat fence and pipe but back yard is barbwire. Horses are not around the barbs. I have had horses all my life and know better than that......
He is however a dog and I believe that he must learn boundaries and im not about to spend my entire day all day everyday working with this dog. He needs to to know that in the house is quiet time not time to run amuck!!! I will take into consideration to what you all have said. He is a sweet loving guy with a great doganality lol. Those of you who see me as crual need to step back and reasses. Im here to help him and me. I want what's best for him. I dont chain him to a tree. I dont starve him he eats well. I even made a batch of silk balls to help with weight minuse all the sugar.
He gets love and attention. He gets a nightly shoulder rub lol and a nice
Soft bed in a new xlg crate! He has about ten different chew toys and well several squeekies..... lots of hugs too. I set in the floor so he can set in my lap!
All I wanted to know was how to calm him down as he comes in from outside. Im not being rude im thankful you guys take the time to answer me at all.

Then perhaps an older dog would have suited your needs better. Children and puppies demand your attention just about all day, everyday. There is a lot of time that needs to be put in to raise a child or pup to a respectable adult and dog. It sounds like you've done a lot for him in the way of hugs, toys, crate etc. But unfortunately its the time we spend with either children or animals, that really counts the most.

I'm not saying every waking moment has to be with your dog. He should learn to be quiet in his new crate too. You both need some quiet time. Is the crate in an area that he can see you? Again, this breed is very social and really wants to be with you. I just went around my house after I posted to you and picked up, did some laundry, made beds, did dishes.............all with my shadow, Buddy, at my side. :) Yes, he followed me everywhere. Sometimes that can get annoying! lol But I know this breed and they want to be with you. He doesn't do this all the time but he does do it. Right now, he and Kali are sleeping behind me. Once again, with me. And content. Soon he will be bugging me to go outside. And its not just to pee. I know he just needs to get some exercise. I have been busy all morning and it hasn't been with him. So just like your pup, my 5 year old needs to get out and run and play. I will most likely take him out to the barn and take a walk around the fence line of my pasture. Its not real far but enough for him to stretch his legs a bit. Your pup will settle as he gets older too. :D

My fence on three sides of yard is goat fence and pipe but back yard is barbwire.
A few folks here that have property have put up a large area for their dogs to run free in. I can't remember the type of fencing that is the cheapest but perhaps others will help me out here. :help: (is it goat fencing??) With all your property, it would be wonderful to designate a large area just for your pup run loose and to be safe in but that you can actually throw a ball far! lol

All I wanted to know was how to calm him down as he comes in from outside. Im not being rude im thankful you guys take the time to answer me at all.
Ok, how about trying this.......when you come inside with him still on a leash, have treats in your pockets and instead of taking off the leash and saying, "ok" for a release....take off the leash but show him that you have a treat and before he bolts, catch his interest with it. Then put him through a little obedience....Sit, down, stay, shake hands, etc. All very calmly so as not to excite him. I'd maybe make the 'down' the last one and calmly give him his treat and walk away. Maybe it will help him settle instead of taking off like the devil. :)

But tiring him out before you come in, is key.

from what i can tell from your posts is that Titus does need more exercise and mental stimulation, but what might also help with him going nuts in the house is when you come and he is in a sit/or down make him stay there until he is completely calm and has now desire to freak out (fall asleep or relaxed) but don't let him off when he is anything under 100% relaxed (common signs of excitement includes: wagging tail, licking nose, and whining) now it might take 45 minutes to get him 100% calm and relaxed but you also need to do this when letting him out of the crate.

classes would be a good idea, and would help create a stronger bond between you and Titus!
