How to Care for a Doberman Puppy

I am thinking that if you start out with the shirt then it may work better because the pup will hopefully avoid ever getting anxious. I could be off base though.

Haha on your beagle! My schnauzer would sleep through everything except the doorbell and food bowl. I'm not gonna lie, I miss the quietness that she brought! Best dog I've ever had, and she was a senior dog rescue from a pound.
I think you are right about the T shirt. I know I will be buying two new ones for the pups since Hurricane season starts in June. Ugh!! I adopted Maddie from the pound last year. She is 10 and has lots of pep to her step after I got the extra weight off of her. She is a little jewel. I love to see the seniors get adopted!!
Awesome for you to adopt her. There are so many in the shelters. Just breaks my heart.

Belle was 10 when we adopted her and she passed away this past July at 14 years old. People were always surprised to hear how old she was, outside of her fatty growths she looked like a younger dog.

Honestly I'd make as much noise as humanly possible. Get them used to a variety of loud noises and do not coddle fearful behavior. Praise when they are curious about it and things like that. My boy doesn't care about thunderstorms what so ever ( we rarely have them too.) In our training the helpers crack a whip and man it's loud but I think that's part of why he doesn't flinch of a bit of thunder :)

Aries my birds squawking can pierce your ears and Gracie never feared that, in fact she would run into aviary to make sure her birds were safe. A hawk broke through our screen to get to the birds and she went in between the hawk and my birds. She stayed there until I could capture the hawk and take it to relocation center. It's just that deep rumbling of thunder that gets her going. Lol
I will incorporate different techniques with the pups.

When Ares was a little guy I used to shoot off party poppers, those cap guns, shake aluminum foil, bang pots and pans lol

I didn't have to worry about banging pans and lids because my husband being in the kitchen cooking can sound like the kitchen is being renovated. Lol
She still stays in there because she knows he can't cook a meal without dropping 1/2 of it on the floor. She was his Hoover. Haha

I will definitely be taking your advice when I get the new pups.
Thanks!!
Hahahaha whatever works right ! Lol I did this because I read horror stories of dogs getting so afraid of thunder or fireworks that they ran off or things like that and I didn't want him to be afraid. Gotta say he handled the forth of July like a boss :)

I've read in a few articles that the thunderstorm issue isn't so much about the noise, but the static caused by the lightning. Some dogs are more sensitive to it than others. Which is why covering them helps.

Fantastic post. I have had Dobes since the 70s. Lost my last one 6 months ago. So sure I am done because of the heartbreak involved, but you never know. I have printed your post to keep handy and read whenever I think I might want another puppy!
