Help me get some sleep :)

Hi all,

I have two dogs, Helios, since 2020 and Athena since mid 2023. Thena is a dobie, but I suppose my question relates to both of them but more so her!

Both dogs come to sleep in my bed. I don’t mind this, but I really could do with getting more sleep.

Does anyone have any suggestions re how I could get them to sleep in the kitchen (which is next to and looks into my room) or failing that by the side of the bed? On beds of course.

Helo will go to his bed by the side of mine if I or my husband asks him however Thena point blank refuses and curls up in the middle of myself and my husband. If it helps, she is VERY food orientated. Is there anything I can do? With (sleepy) advance thanks for any suggestions! 😊

Yeah, seems like options are barriers via either crates or gates or you could try a "place" type command; teaching them that place is their bed on the floor or where ever. "Place" would take a bit longer to teach, I would think, but can be a useful command, overall.

Crating or Gating might result in a few more sleepless nights as they might vocally protest but they learn pretty quickly.

Our dogs are crated at night but to occasionally get overnight bed privilege's and it's almost always the worst night of sleep I've ever had so totally understand where you're coming from :D

Thank you. It doesn’t help I am a pushover with them both *sigh*

I would leave her to bark it out but I fear the neighbours would go off their heads ☹️

That part is a problem and luckily we don't have to worry about it so they can fuss all they want until they figure it out. I've always fed our dogs in the crate and they associate it with a good place and readily go in on their own for naps, if they're not on the couch with each other. We let our dogs sleep with us but they have to understand bed manners right off the bat or lose their privileges.
