I live in BC. I'm fortunate, I live out in the country where people tend to be a little more realistic about 'animals'...I get teased about spoiling my pup and rarely receive any flak re: crop and dock. When I do my response is that I'm willing to discuss the issue if they can talk from experience as owners or are in the veterinary field and/or can present their position in a manner that suggests research into the procedure because...I can! This usually shuts them up, has, a couple of times, resulted in conversation and education. The mouthpieces/do-gooders...heh, I tend to shut them down fairly easily.
Ironically, I didn't care if my pup was cropped or not, now that I know what it entails and have lived through it I wouldn't have it any other way. I despise people who think they have the right to demand we all live according to their expectation. What a crap world it's becoming...when everything we do is examined by others.
Ok, 'nuff said. I'll end this by asking that we all do our part...that we fight this. I'm in!

who's giving that up?

just came through from 3MillionDogs.
observation. we have a friend in our choir who has a standard poodle,,(a MOST cool dog, I have to say) He shows his poodle in some local shows...nothing big, but LOVES the poodle pom-pom clip...Now, I am not a fan of this clip but, hey, its not my dog...here is the thing: this dog HATES being clipped...always has, probably always will. He is a very sweet natured dog, and does not get mean or aggressive, but has clearly not accepted the fact that the grooming parlor is not run by Dr. Mengele.. (hope i spelled that right, but you know who I mean) Is it cruel to have him undergo this procedure? He does give the dog some Ace, and that has gone a long way to smooth out the situation, but someone said recently that the guy should stop torturing his dog. keep in mind that this poodle lives WAY better than most of the worlds population, and has not seemed to have had any alteration of his mental status. (by the way, the groomer is excellent, and will go to any length to help with the dog)
Ace helps, but hasnt helped nearly as much as it helps the poodle...that has not stopped the owner from making nasty comments about c/d, and my sweet Katie.
!!!!! , (as well as those who feel that not being able to take Fifi to get her hair and nails did, is akin to dog fashion mutilation..)
