FastCat

Remy’s next FastCat is on Saturday! Unfortunately there is a 100% chance of rain 😩 Originally I wanted to go on Friday (which of course has beautiful weather) but I wasn’t able to that day.

My husband was flipping channels one day last week when a fast cat competition was playing! I said, I know what that is! 😁 And we watched it for quite a while. We didn't watch the whole thing but it was pretty good! We saw all types of breeds... Afghan hound, greyhounds German Shepherds, even some really small dogs. I was going to write down all the different breeds but I didn't. One of them I think was a bulldog. I do remember thinking it was a "pushed in face" type of dog and I was surprised. Just because I was afraid for their breathing! LOL but he did good!

The best thing is that if a Doberman is excited about doing something the rain won't be a bother! If there's a chance you have to stand in the rain to wait his turn you might want to put a jacket over him that's easy to slip off when you go to the start line. Especially if it's a cold rain. Can't wait to hear about the results!!! Go team Remy!

I take him out sometimes when it’s raining to run with his longline so I don’t think he’ll care much! Just a bummer that the other days had better weather. The rain might make for some cool pictures though!

Yeah, I find if their prey drive is high enough they never care about the rain. And it is true, the track IS faster in the rain. 😁

We just finished up with FastCat! Now that Remy knew what he was there for he was INSANE! He was watching the bags while the other dogs ran and tried to pull towards them lol. When it was his turn and we got to the start line, he started to bark at the bags and pulled so hard as I held his collar that his feet were digging into the ground. 😂 He did really well with the craziness of the other dogs though! The dog in the car next to us went nuts every time we walked by.

Thankfully it was not raining when we were there and the ground didn’t even feel wet. He did 2 FCATs and 1 CAT. His times were 8.918 and 9.143 (almost 23mph) seconds which is about was I was expecting since he’s young. I wasn’t sure about doing the CAT (I know some people avoid them due to the higher risk of injury), but since the ground didn’t feel wet I thought it would be okay to try. He really loved it! He did slow down some towards the end, which is why I did the FastCats first. My mom was the catcher for both FastCats again and myself for the CAT. Unfortunately we didn’t get a video of the first FastCat.

I am hoping to go again in February!

CAT Run

FastCat Run

Of course you need to post a ribbon picture lol. Just qualifiers for now but with how much he loves it I know he’ll be getting some rosettes eventually.

His name was spelled wrong on these two.

Super runs! All that matters is everyone having fun. That cat was laid out really nice. Sometimes they print the pattern in advance and I've seen some really tight turns but that one looked very safe. Congrats on your Q's!

Bet he is even harder to hold next time!
Probably! I was expecting him to be even more excited for it this time, but I wasn’t expecting him to be that into it already!
Congratulations!
Thank you!

Oh definitely! I loved being able to watch him run a bit more while doing the CAT! I don’t get to see much when I release him for FCAT and it goes by so quick.

This is the course layout. Seems like he ran the bottom one. I was a little nervous about him running with the turns since he hasn’t done it yet, but like you said, they didn’t seem too bad. I also like that they have a big catch pen for FCAT. I’ve seen some that look pretty small.

That's awesome! You can see how much fun he's having!! I think he's gonna be a fast cat pro!
He loves it! It’s definitely something we will continue doing.

:congrats: That was awesome! He was having fun!

How do those things run? I mean, how do they keep the bags moving?

how do they keep the bags moving?
It's on an electronic pully system, A wire on the ground that goes in a loop (or a straight line for Fast Cat) operated by a Lure Operator whose job it is to keep it just out of reach for the dog. If the dog is slow, the lure goes slow, if the dog is fast it's their job to not let the dog catch it.

Does it ever get messed up with the dog running over it?
