Essential Oils. Anyone use them?

After a bit of discussion in this thread https://doberman-chat.com/community/threads/pet-odor-nuetralizer.22988/ @Tad brought up the benefits of oils and I thought it would be an interesting thread to start. I really don't know a lot about them but a horse friend I know is very into them! She is into everything natural and after hearing her talk about it off and on, I'm getting convinced of their healing properties too. I think there is a lot of good that's become of them even if its simply a calming effect.

So if any of you have experience with them I would love to hear from you!

I'm a wellness advocate for doterra oils. I started using them off and on for a couple of years. I recently used them a few times on Denali. I've used a calming blend when he gets nutty lol. And the digestzen blend on his tummy when he gets diarrhea. He has a keloid on his ear from the cropping surgery. I'm going to try frankincense to heal it. I like this site for reference.

I've been using them for about 6 years or so. Not as much lately, but still every now and then. If you get good quality oils and read up on their properties they can be very helpful. We even use them on the dogs as a repellent for ticks and Mosquitos, and it helps a lot.

I used to use them a lot to reduce stress, and treat sinus issues, along with other things. I still have my collection of them and the carrier oils that you need to use them in. They are great to add to a massage, or a bath, or even as a pick me up. I make my own blends of them depending on what I want them to do. All in all they are very helpful for many things, but they are not magic, as they need to used in conjunction with other healthy lifestyle modalities.

Oh I LOVE my oils! I am also a believer in color and light therapy. I got started in it when I was diagnosed with MS. Oils, light and color can do amazing things for your attitude. I wanted to find something to help deal with some of the symptoms without taking a lot of drugs. Believe me, there is a drug for everything now. My therapies help with pain, depression and lots of other symptoms from my disease while cutting down the meds I have to take.

A coworker of my wife's got her kind of into Young Living oils.

Like I said, we are both skeptical, but we are both anti-medicines.

The starkest example so far of the oils working is that there was a woman at work that had a bad headache. My wife gave her a certain oil and the headache disappeared. I know. Could be coincidence.

Currently, I'm trying to kick a cold. My wife sweetly put Thieves on the soles of my feet and on my back. I like the story behind the Thieves oil.

I agree! And I also agree there is something about oils and light therapy. I believe there is world of knowledge out there on remedies that don't include drugs, which also come with a list of side effects!! :tap:

Keep bringing these stories and advice! I love hearing it and how it's helped someone! :ty:

I can gather some tales from my wife's experiences so far.

It's funny. She'll diffuse some Joy (I think there's an oil called Joy) and maybe something else. Then if something gets better – either the way someone is feeling, or just the mood, she'll say "Hey, maybe it was the oils!"

I can tell you if nothing else it's a nice thing for our daughter mentally/emotionally. If she has something that hurts or "hurts" especially at bedtime my wife might rub some oils on her belly or wherever. It's so sweet.

I had a horrible headache the other day. I took 2 Tylenol, diffused a headache blend and rubbed on my head. It was gone quickly.

You have to try it without the Tylenol so we can really tell if its the oils! ;)

By all means! That's what I made the thread for. :D I want to hear what folks have used and what they've used it for. Also some results.

And speaking of this, don't they paint the 'green room' that holds guests on a show green?? Isn't that why they call it the green room? I've always heard it was because it had a calming effect.

And look at light therapy in the winter....some people get that winter blues and it's because of the lack of sun in the winter. (hush, gel :D)

Lol I did this afternoon. It took the edge off but didn't completely take it away.

The green room I've been in was not green.

I know my dad used to say that fast food restaurants were usually colored red, orange etc. inside to hurry people out, while blue colored places are meant to make the guests feel relaxed and stay a while. Kind of makes sense, but I don't know.

There is a lot of truth to that, but it is actually even more involved. Just take a look at the colors of fast food restaurants, and you will similar colors. Colors also attract business, just like flowers attract bees.

I enjoy using essencial oils. Mostly I use them because I enjoy the smell but which ones I use always depends on how I'm feeling. I use lavender if want to relax, I'll use citrus ones if I want to get a bit of a pep. I also have a detox blend (not 100% sure what is in that one possibly some sandalwood and lemon grass and others) and another one that I don't know what's in it called Witches Brew (it says it a dark spiritual blend of pure essential oils) lol, it does have a bit of a heavier smell but very nice. I'll have to try and find out what's actually in it and the detox blend.

Tried making them. Never really used beyond fragrance. Hydrosols were nice. Could never separate it out completely unfortunately . I was hoping to make my own blends from various flora on wilderness forays.

My housekeeper approached me about my essential oil use a few weeks ago.
When she first started working for me she was sceptical. I make my own cleaning solutions and asked her to use mine when she started.
She has been asking me a ton of question lately. Even asked me if you could experiment with some of my solutions. I guess her experiment worked.
She is looking to expand her business and was looking into a 'gimmick' to set her apart from the other companies. Enter a 'all natural' approach. She said she noticed that my house never smells like animals even though I have 2-3 dogs living here. She has a client with cats. She started using my stuff there and the client approached her and asked what she was doing differently. The house was smelling so fresh and clean. Lori (my housekeeper) is sold! She asked me to supply her company with cleaning supplies. She is going to have her attorney work something up so it is profitable for me. Granted it probably won't be more than some extra spending money for a while but should be fun. I guess we'll see where it goes.

That's great and a win for both of you!

What kind of stuff would you use for a cleaning solution? Lets face it, stuff like Natures Miracle is expensive.

Sounds like a good plan! When I joined a friend in her cleaning business for about 3 years, the one thing I thought about it after awhile was how daily I am exposed to all kinds of chemicals in the cleaning supplies. We all are exposed when we use them but more so in a cleaning business where you are doing it so much more. Having all natural may not only help her business but be helpful to her own health.

My wife makes a cleaning solution using essential oils. I feel good using that to spray and wipe the dinner table and the counters.

Lovely wife did, a couple years ago, finally convince me to agree to us hiring a cleaning person who comes every two weeks. This person does not use natural cleaners and I don't like it. I also don't like that she reeks like a human ash tray, but that's a different story.
