Eris - Adulthood anxiety & eCollar issues

Thank you for the support and kind words.

I am happy to discuss privately. I think when I explain the reason why I don't want to put any names out there for the parties in this story, you'll understand. Sometimes people get connected to other people with bad reputations and get dragged down with it, and that's not what I want. The trainers saved her life and have been incredible people to work with, but the connection they had in the past with Eris' breeder is both the reason why they knew of them and also why I don't want to unintentionally create a possible link with which an unknowing person could draw the wrong conclusions.

The GOOD news is that breeder is retired and no longer breeding doberman. So small blessings in that regard! But I'll send you a private message to explain more.
Very gracious, and highly useful info, and I understand perfectly and support you in your discretion.

PS: I think Eris in your dream was saying love you and "you are ready for another puppy"...😉

Update!

More strange coincidences...

So I'm...bringing home a new baby.

We are just doing a trial to make sure she's a good fit, but if all goes well, that'll be one crazy coincidence because I'm bringing her home exactly one year since I said goodbye to Eris down to the week.

I don't want to get my hopes up yet, but wouldn't that be wild if it lined up that perfectly? So strange...

Anyway, here she is. She's an all natural girlie, no crop/dock or amputations, which is totally fine with me.

Yay! Even though mine are cropped and docked, I do love the natural look, and they are the same under the hood. She have a name yet? She's cute and beautiful. I can't wait to learn more about her and how it goes for the trial.

Ten hour drive later... she's here! The name she came with is Rose -- I don't dislike it, I just work with someone named Rose and my boss' dog's name is Rosie, so I'd kind of prefer something else, but we'll see.

So basically, the folks who picked up Eris and got her rehomed contacted me about a month ago to let me know she had a puppy that hadn't found her person yet and wanted to ask me about it. We had talked about my getting a cropped/docked black and rust male, so this was basically a 180 from what we'd talked about, BUT they felt like personality-wise, she might actually work out well.

I told them that ultimately I don't care about how they look, I just want a good fit after what I went through with Eris, so I'm more than happy to give her a try. When we got Eris, little 19 lb Ellie (the mini Aussie) was 8, but she's 11 now and has gotten a bit more intolerant of rough housing in her age, and we're pretty sure there's some onset of arthritis. Thus, it is important that whatever puppy I get isn't going to beat the sh*t out of her like Eris did every day. We also want to make sure there's no reactivity to cats, cuz that was a huge issue with Eris.

But so far so good! She wants to play with the cats, but doesn't chase them. She mostly ignores them which is perfect. And she was very responsive to the dogs when they gave her warnings about boundaries if she was getting in their face too much. We'll have her a few weeks before I make a final decision so we can see her personality as she settles in more. She's got a soft, submissive personality. Very playful, interested in more agility-related activities rather than the extreme drive like Eris had (Eris would have made an insanely good protection sport or bitework dog). Rose doesn't seem to have that in her, but she definitely wants a job to do.

I don't have many pictures yet, since we got home after a long drive and kinda pooped out. I'll get some this weekend =)

Also, she looks bigger than she is cuz her legs are so dang long, but she's gotta be only 23-ish lbs. Her ears are taped down cuz she's teething like crazy and her ears are trying to go wonkadoodle.

I just sat here and read through your whole thread all over again and what a nice happy ending! For both Eris and you! Rose is beautiful! Did I miss how old she was?
