E-collar savoy.

I start Grace on the e-collar early, not sure if it was 5-6 months...Mine has tone, vibrate and shock and all at different levels....I only introduced her to tone as a pup...and it is her signal to return to heel, no matter how fair away she is...(vibrate/shock at a young are confusing to them and may cause misunderstandings.) That's my 2 cents....

I don't think anyone is going to directly suggest an ecollar brand for a 5 month old puppy. I would focus on finding other ways to reinforce his obedience and enroll in basic obedience classes. You've had him for 4 weeks, give it time and put in the work! He is after all, just a baby.

If you really desire to find recommended brands for when he gets older, there are threads out there by using the search feature. :)
This is true, way to young for an ecollar. I don’t even go to a prong until 6-9 months. 6 months only on very high drive working dogs.
I tell all the people train with me, until your dog is 6month old you just need to play with your dog and build engagement. I will lure my puppies into positions but many times not even give it a command. Just mark the behavior and reward. If you build the proper engagement with you, your dog will stay focused on you over other distractions, you are the ultimate fun, other animals and people will not matter.

Ecollar is only trained once all behaviors have been trained on a prong collar. The ecollar is then paired with the prong collar at a low setting. Once multiple pairing have been trained, and the dog understands the correction from the ecollar, then you can train off leash with only the ecollar on.

The mini educator ecollar is about the best price and ranges from 0 -100. Most young dogs will train between 10 - 20 if taught properly. If you put the ecollar on yourself you may not even be able to feel it in level 10. That is how low a setting many dogs can work off of if trained properly.

If you live out in the country and need more than a 1/2 mile range get the educator et-400 same collar but has 3/4 mile range.

For extreme working dogs you would need the Boss educator.

To be honest I have been working with my pup every day for hours. Hes really smart and listens for the most part. He knows sit, stay, down, come, no, paw, up and easy for our walks tells him slow down before your prong collar gets tighter. The purpose of a e collar for me is the beeping versus the shock. Right now he has had a invisible fence installed hes om week 2 and is doing very good. He has gotten shocked at the lowest level so now when he hears beeping he stops getting closer. I'm thinking maybe that beeping noise might be a good technique for him not to know right from wrong.

I don't have faith in invisible fences with Dobes or other Prey driven dogs...I've seen too many sitting across the street from their house looking to get back in after running down squirrels, etc.:D

Yea years ago we had one when I had a boy named Satch. If he wanted to leave he would just run through it head twitchingbthe entire way until he was past the shock area. He went back to a tie out until we got our fence built.

They sell cheaper ecollars that was not have tone and vibrate. Not sure about how good they are or how they hold up. I know vibrate runs the batteries down twice as fast as the stimulation does.

Haha, I lived behind a neighbor that had two Jack Russells that did the same thing! They would run like hell and get past the line. One time I found one of them in my yard squealing on the ground like he was having a heart attack or something. I ran over to him to take the collar off and as soon as I did he took off! So did I. Chasing after him, his collar in my hand. Oh yeah, did I say that we went right back over that same freaking line! Oh yeah, I was zapped!!
