E collar recommendations

*Staff Note:* Some posts were moved from this thread to their own thread as there was some useful ecollar training specific advise that would be more suitable and easier for others to find vs in an ecollar brand recommendations thread. Please do carry on the great discussion on training techniques to discourage cat chasing and other undesirable behaviors here: Using an ecollar to discourage bad behaviors *

We use the educator mini
Thank you! I was hoping to find one that's made in the USA and here it is! :)

We'll be using it mainly to curb Ruger's barking in the backyard. ½ mile distance is PLENTY because we live in a subdivision and our backyard isn't large.

Ba-da bing!

I read the manual about 10 times before even putting it on her because I'd never used one before. It was actually very thorough and easy to follow... as manuals go.

Grace has an e-collar and is totally responsive to the tone...that skill only took three or four higher level control signals...I use it outside when off lease, either in the yard or in country. Too old to yell or chase!! LOL...I trained her to sit and stop all activity when toned. :)...
:usa::dobe::cool:

If you need something with a higher level I would get The Boss by educator or educator Pro. But most cases the mini or E-400 has plenty of power. I have used both on All of my dogs and training range varies from about 18 to 28 out of 100. Exception is Blaze who requires much higher level. Will probably get The Boss for him. His training level starts around 48 and goes up as during training as his drive goes up. Have had to go to 100 in him multiple times and he has never let out 1 yelp. Another trainer (Waine) refused to believe the collar was even working because of his high pain tolerance.

This is Bogie! His drive is so intense that it takes a lot to snap him out of that focused drive. He has never yelped. Bacall has only gotten the lowest setting and she responds immediately.

yes, it's been GREAT as a backup for things Dingo already knows. She was wandering at the side of the house the other day and a cat bolted out and right for the road. I yelled "NOOOOOOOOPE" and Rubie stopped but was still staring in the cats direction. When I called her and she didn't immediately turn back to me, I gave her a gentle reminder, and she did an abrupt face and sprinted right to me. Luckily she doesn't "see red," more like a pink-ish color, and we've had a lot of practice with the taunting squirrels

Looking at shock-the-he11-out-of-em collars. The Garmin Pro 550 is $400! That's too much money for me to spend on a convenience item. Anyone have first-hand experience with the Alpha Dogs Commander Pro?

Pardon me if I'm spoiling tongue-in-cheek-ness. You will do the necessary training before using the electric training collar, right? For us, it is not a convenience item. It is pretty darn necessary given our house/home/life situation. Just in terms of the barking in the backyard: I refuse to be a nuisance neighbor, or even an inconsiderate one, and the zapper collar helps a lot (since he has been already trained by me on the silent command yet is incapable of reliably carrying it out.)

I've tried to get Ruger to shut up, but it has proven futile. Our house has a public trail direct behind it, only feet away, so Ruger feels the need to bark constantly. And like you, I refuse to be a nuisance neighbor. Everyone else's dogs around us may bark their heads off, but mine will not. He'll learn to only bark when given the command or when there's a real threat.

That said, I went with Educator's barkless collar and it is yielding great results already!

Ah, yes. That will be an interesting one for us, too, at our new house. We'll be on a corner so plenty of sidewalk. We'll be working on that from day one once we move :woot2: is he still outside when no one else is? We've worked on it a bit now (no fence) but she's only ever outside when I am and have treats or a toy or something to distract her with (on top of the eCollar if she shows too much interest).

I was looking at the dogtra 1900s anyone have this model ? If so what do u think of it
I use the Educator et-400 also have the mini educator. Dogtra’s are nice as well have used them in the past. Also used the Sport Dog a long time ago. I would not use sport dog again. Had some problems with mine not always working. Educator from ecollar technologies has the best customer service I have ever experienced. That is why I switched. Also a little cheaper than the Dogtra but Dogtra’s are nice as well.

I have been looking into several threads on E-Collars and can't find what I'm looking for. Maybe someone can help. It was this year, I'm sure, and someone had posted an e collar that was shaped to fit along the neck. Unlike the 'boxy' ones like most of the others. I have the Dogtra IQ and it won't charge anymore and it also lost the rubber cover to the charge opening. (2nd time that's happened.) I contacted Customer Service a few years ago when I had the same issues and they sent me new ones for a lower rate than re-purchasing them new. But I'm just looking at other options.

I also saw this:

Dogtra iQ CLiQ | Dog Training Outlet

Which looks like an even smaller one than the IQ? Maybe a new one that just came out? Or at least since I bought mine. It's for dogs as small as 10 lbs. I'm looking for an e collar for Kali, so that was an interesting find.

@MyBuddy I posted this one not too long ago on a different thread. Not sure if this is the image you are referring to. Its by far the thinnest one imo. However not sure what they have for small dogs. So maybe it wasn't me.

I was looking at this one for its low profile but then I recall Kali is your little one.

Actually, I believe it was this one that I saw! Curved around the neck like that. Expensive, though! Sheesh. But its the first one that I saw with that curve. It seemed so much more comfortable than that box. :D Thank you!

That is an interesting design too. I never saw that one before. I'll check it out but just from the picture it looks like it wouldn't fit a small dog. I'll check the website. Thanks!

Anyone hear anything about that Dogtra iQ CliQ?
