DPCA National 2024

Excited for you!!!! It is such a great time....anytime you are around hundreds of Dobermans, it's a great day  I drive back & forth, and hope to be doing Rally with Falcon this fall. I will look for you around the breed ring!!

I did stay there a few years ago, and you can put your Do Not Disturb on; which we did the the few days we stayed, and most people did. You were able to just put all your garbage and towels in the hall each day  I never left our dogs in the room, but many people do!

I never left our dogs in the room
omg, I would never! Oops, as soon as I typed that, I realized I DID, one time, to run get ice. The ice was in the lobby where the office was only 3 doors down, so I just ran real quick. And my previous Dobe, quiet as a mouse, never barked, everybody was her friend, I did leave her in a motel for several hours with the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Looking back I think that was really stupid of me, but it was over 20 years ago. You know better you do better.

Yes usually you aren't supposed to leave your dogs in the room because they could bark non-stop with no one to stop them. It typically says that in the premium.

No idea... that's why I want the schedule of events lol.
"Not Supposed to" but you will see that plenty do :sorry: The saddest thing; and just my opinion...are the vans full of dogs that don't get to go stay in the rooms. Left in the parking lot locked in a van:complain: Again; just my opinion. I know handlers have many other peoples dogs with them, and can't take them all inside...but I would not want my dog in a crate in someone's van everynight. That's where you hear the barking...when out walking your dobe in the middle of the night.

Honestly, it's just not possible to have that many crates. You would need crates for the hotel and crates for the show plus crates for the car. Most of us leave our crates at the show otherwise that's a lot of gear to walk back and forth every morning and every night 4x a week. Now do that for the hotel too, up and down three flights. Once you have around 3+ dogs, bringing them inside is a little chaotic. They'd have to be in crates in the room anyways, especially with intact dogs of different genders. They'll be more comfortable in the car so long as the temperature is fine for it. Usually handlers are at the show all day and then come back and exercise and feed all the dogs... then time to feed the humans and time for bed. The dogs want nothing more than to sleep at that point. I know I do too. 😂

but it's always an option to do ringside handling where you take the dog to the show, hand them over, handler shows then gives the dog back to you to take home!

Yea, I understand that....and I did do the ringside handling when I had a bitch years ago from a breeder who showed her in conformation. I preferred my dog stayed with me :)

I have left Della in the room a few times since she was always quiet as a mouse. The one time I ran out to my vehicle and left her in the room and in the meantime they accidently gave my room to someone else. Thankfully it was a judge and she said it was a huge surprise when she walked on the room and saw a Doberman sitting like a little statue on the bed. I just saw that judge today and we always get a little chuckle out of that incident.

They finally posted a tentative schedule for the National! 2024 National -

Looks like there will be scent work again. On October 1st there are two seminars (looks more geared towards beginners) and trials the following day, October 2nd.

@Rits who are you showing down there?
After close to 8 years my husband was let go of his job for a stupid reason that they were wrong for and when pointed out they were wrong , woops sorry we were wrong but too late but you can reapply. Long story short; politics. Fire everyone to bring in your own buddies. So my husband doesn't have the 2 weeks of PTO anymore that he saved for the National... Back to zero with a new job.

If we are lucky we will be able to go for a day or two. Probably aiming for Wed to show Trendy and Stavros in Futurity and Ripley in Scentwork.

I hope you are able to go! I’m thinking I will go Monday - Wednesday.

I definitely want to do the WAE which is Monday morning, then the top 20 conformation is that night. Tuesday is rally and Wednesday is scentwork. We’ll see 🤞🏻. I don’t think it worth entering him in any shows there lol.
