You have done a real good job of nursing her back to health, welldone HRD!:)

Most of the credit goes to dela and my dad, she was with them prior to last week. But she has been on the invermectin for 2 months before it cleared up. I put Fate on it just to be on the safe side, seems to be doing great, mind you I jumped on it super early at first sign... she gets 3.5cc a day after building up to it over 2 weeks. Its even cherry flavor.

Wow, this is all so foreign to me since we almost never see any cases in this area. Does the warmer weather have anything to do with it being worse in some areas, aside from the other triggers?

At any rate, it's heartbreaking to see the poor dogs when they're affected like that. I hope it works out for all involved....

I've never seen anything mentioned relating to climate. A suppressed immune system is what allows the Demodex mites to be able to run ramped.

thats what they say, but i wonder now a days. i am beginning to think if its environment. SA is the toilet of the US on air and allergy crap

Allergies/ illness/ stress/ could all cause a dogs immune system to suffer. So yes, environment could play a roll in the primary illness. Undetected or left untreated could cause the illness to progress therefore affect the entire body including the immune system.

I am by no means making excuses for this situation, however, a bitch carrying a litter (especiall if too young/old or over bred) and whelping is under stress and could very well kick this ugly thing into high gear and be passed along to the pups.

The main thing is, a so called breeder not giving a rats behind about what is happening with the pups they are producing and putting out there. That is just appauling!

you never been to Bakersfield, yet

Joe just told me, that friends of ours had to put their little dog down, how he told me it sounded like its was demodex :(
if i had known before, i would have tell him about our forum and they might had find another medication, i don't know what they got from the vet and why it wasn't helping, but the vet said it were the best so to do. i don't know more, have to talk to them, when i see them the next time and see what really happens :(

PUPIL... thats it..gawd, i can never remember that... so she has like red... then black... then the pupil... the black part is always big tho in the one eye so she always looks like WHAT?????????????? but lopsided

My husbands best friend has a pupil like that. Caught a fish hook in it when he was a little kid. Can't imagine that ride to the hospital. I tried to go to myspace & the profile is private. I asked for her to become a friend. I hope her dog is doiung better, and since I had troubles with a breeder out of TN I';d love to chat about that as well. Wouldn't shock me at all if it was the same person (lowlife scum, actually)!!

How sad! This is all still new to me, this demodex thing! I know nothing about it and I'm learning here but I'm so surprised to hear some of this. Without going back six pages, this is a 'mange' correct? I'm wondering because I know from watching Animal Planet rescues that there were a few dogs that were tested and found to have some type of mange that was incurable and PTS. I was very surprised. I mean I always thought, hey, it's 'just' a skin thing? But I guess it's very, very serious.

And yes, this breeder should be blacklisted! Who could look at that dog and not feel something? It just breaks my heart.

have you seenthis mite at work Pam?

Terrible to see a poor dog in this condition, breeder should be blacklisted from here on in.
Totally agree with you there Paul! Isn't there anyway that this breeder in the US can be repoted to somesort of governing body, anyone?

Well Fate wasnt a planned litter anyways, she was an oops, and Dela had long since got her dogs fixed and made it a point to sell all the pups on limited and i think asked the pups get fixed as well... most are I think already except those waiting for first heats :( Her dogs never had demodex... Fate didnt show anything of til now at 9 months. who knows.
